Road Construction - What To Expect Next Week
Project updates for Week of Nov. 13
Work is underway on $16.4 million worth of road improvement projects recently approved by the Sunnyvale Town Council.
Phase 2B and 2C include the repair and overlay of the following sections of asphalt roadway (dates are subject to change). This week's activity is scheduled to include:
- Town East Boulevard from Collins Road to Tower Place - Final paving for both the eastbound and the westbound lanes is expected to be completed during the early part of the week of 11/13 weather permitting. Please expect some delays during the final paving phase.
- East Fork (first Phase 2C project) between Gloria and Tripp is ongoing. The southbound side has reopened and construction on the northbound side will be underway until early the week of 11/20 weather permitting. Please plan on using Collins for traveling southbound and northbound through the Town.
- North Collins Road from Town East Boulevard to Barnes Bridge Road is ongoing (southbound side). A traffic switch is planned to occur Monday, 11/13, with the southbound side reopening while the northbound side gets closed for reconstruction. Please plan on using Town East/Polly/Barnes Bridge to bypass the construction zone impacting northbound Collins.
The latest updates and a preview of upcoming activities are available at TownofSunnyvale.org/RoadProjects. Construction schedules can change with short notice. We appreciate your patience.
Mail Service - Construction operations could temporarily disrupt US Postal Service deliveries to some mailboxes in the construction area. The Supervisor of Delivery at the Mesquite Post Office confirmed that undelivered mail would be held at the Mesquite Post Office, 120 E. Grubb Dr. Post office hours can be found at their website.
Trash Service - For residents along the construction route, please make sure your trash containers are out by 7 a.m. on your assigned day. If the lane in front of your home is closed, please place your container across the street.

Sunnyvale Survey - Community Design
Earlier this year, more than 700 Sunnyvale residents shared their insights about our community through a "livability" survey.
The overall design or layout of residential and commercial areas received positive reviews from about two-thirds of residents, while more than 8 in 10 gave ratings of essential or very important for the town to focus on in the coming two years. These relative ratings of quality and importance suggest Community Design as an area of focus for the Town.
All items in the survey related to the facet of Community Design were on par with national averages. About 9 in 10 residents offered high marks to their neighborhood as a place to live and the overall appearance of Sunnyvale. Roughly 6 in 10 residents gave similar ratings to the town having well-designed neighborhoods, the overall quality of new development, and the preservation of the historical or cultural character of the community.
While similar to the national averages, ratings for the availability of affordable quality housing (42% excellent or good) and well-planned commercial growth (36%) indicate that these may be an area of opportunity for the Town.
These results were part of the National Community Survey. The full report is available at TownofSunnyvale.org/Survey.
As our holiday season ramps up, remember the sweet pets available at the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter.
We're partnering with PetSmart Mesquite for a special pet adoption event from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at 19175 LBJ Freeway, Mesquite, TX 75150. Adoptions are FREE and include all needed vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, dewormer, heartworm testing and preventative, flea and tick treatment, and a 30-day limited health guarantee. Animal Control Officers will be on hand to answer your questions. We will also have a shopping list available so you may purchase something for the animal shelter.
The greatest gift you could give our shelter pets is a responsible, forever home! Keep sharing with your friends and networks and let's clear our shelter this holiday season!
We're still waiving pet adoption fees and providing discount vouchers for several pet services.
Call us at (214) 862-4525 or visit our Petfinder page to find out about these pets and many more.
You can still pre-register for this event!
Pre-registration for the Fast & Furriest Turkey Trot, benefitting the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter, is still available at discounted rates. T-shirts and other giveaways are only available while supplies last.
Sunnyvale Homeowners Will See Utility Bill Savings
During this year's budget process, Town leadership adopted a new winter sewer averaging process which calculates your wastewater charge based on your water consumption during the months of December, January and February. This will help offset a water rate increase from the North Texas Municipal Water District and save the average Sunnyvale homeowner approximately $235 annually. More information about the FY 2023-24 Town Budget is available on our website.
The Town Council also approved a 20% homestead exemption for Sunnyvale homeowners, which will save the average homeowner about $450 annually. Go to TownofSunnyvale.org/Homestead to learn more.
