Focus On Education
Friday, September 22, 2023
Homecoming week is a time of celebration, not just for the students, but for the entire community. It's a time when we come together to celebrate the pride of our school and hometown. In our school district, this week has been marked by an outpouring of school spirit and support for one another. Our staff and students have gone above and beyond to find ways to bring light to others. From decorating the halls in Brickie Purple and Gold to organizing awesome community events, everyone has played a part in making this week special. It's been amazing to see the creativity and passion that our school community has brought to this celebration. In addition to the Homecoming festivities, we've had a lot of other things to celebrate this week, too! Take a look at this week's Focus on Education to see what we've been up to and what we have coming up!

35 Indiana colleges are participating in Indiana’s College Application Week, September 25-29. During this week, students can apply to all participating colleges and universities for free. This annual effort encourages students to apply to Indiana colleges before early application deadlines, allowing students a greater chance of receiving institutionally-awarded financial aid.
College Application Week is part of Learn More Indiana’s annual College GO! initiative that takes place each August through November with information and resources designed to help Hoosier K-12 students explore and plan for education beyond high school. The official kick-off to College GO! is the last full week in September (Sept. 25-29), coinciding with College Application Week. Friday, Sept. 22, is #WhyApply Day, which is a social media campaign encouraging the public to share why it’s important to apply to college!

Better Sleep is Possible Through Turning Off Electronics!
It’s not a myth that electronics can affect sleep. Studies have shown that blue light screens such as TVs, tablets, computers, and cell phones emit suppress melatonin resulting in not feeling sleepy at bedtime and disrupting quality sleep. The best rule of thumb is to eliminate screen time an hour before kids head to bed. Think about what your child needs and when you can fit screen time in appropriately so that it does not affect their sleep habits. You don’t want your child to feel deprived of electronics, or like they are being punished, so instead, we recommend being intentional with creating a new schedule that allows for screen time prior to the last hour of the day. Turn off the electronics an hour before bed. This works for all ages from young to adults.
School Bus Safety!
As we start school, it is important for the safety of our children to be aware of our school buses.
The stop arm and blinking lights mean “STOP”. To disregard the stop arm is a misdemeanor and mandatory court appearance. The Hobart Police Department has shared that law allows the police to use the bus driver’s observations to issue a citation to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Our ultimate goal is a safe commute for children to and from school.
