Penguin's Raft
4th week of November
Dear Moraine Families,
This time of year reminds me of how thankful I am to be a part of this amazing Moraine community! I am fortunate to work with a talented and dedicated staff and an incredibly supportive school community. It is truly an honor to serve our students, staff, and families.
We are excited to continue with the idea of homework-free “Well-Being Breaks” for all of our major school holidays/breaks. We believe school breaks should be just that - a brief reprieve from school responsibilities like homework, special projects, planning, and grading. It is a time to reconnect with loved ones without the stress of schoolwork creeping in. Therefore, all students AND staff will be free of academic-related work during the following dates:
Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday, November 22 - Sunday, November 26)
Winter Break (Saturday, December 23 - Sunday, January 7)
Mid-Winter Break (Friday, February 16 (1/2 day of school) - Monday, February 19)
Spring Break (Saturday, March 23 - Sunday, March 31)
Making sure that our students, staff, and families have the opportunity to detach themselves from school completely—physically and mentally—on the days they’re off is an important part of our commitment to honoring the whole person. Leader in Me calls this “Sharpening the Saw”. In other words, we know our students and staff have lives outside of school and guess what? We want them to enjoy those healthy, balanced lives! This means we want you to take the time to rest, relax, and rejuvenate!
Please note that our office plans on following this same advice, and as a result, there will be no Penguin’s Raft during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Please look for a new edition of the Raft on Sunday, December 3rd.
With gratitude,
Joe Reimann
Principal, Moraine Elementary

Transitioning to a "No Pet" Arrival and Dismissal 11/27
Please note that as of Monday, November 27, we will be extending the "No Pets on Campus" policy to arrival and dismissal. With this being a high traffic time of day, adding animals that may overly excite or scare children can create a safety issue.
While our pets are well-loved by many, our first priority is a safe and efficient arrival/dismissal of our 400+ students. For those that have pets they would like to walk to school, you may choose to have your child meet you off campus, such as the sidewalk path in NBW or in the cul de sac behind the school.
Thank you for partnering with us!
School-wide 7 Habits Family BINGO!
We are excited to share an opportunity for your family to practice the 7 habits at home with a family BINGO game. The best part is your child can help Moraine earn a school-wide BINGO celebration while applying the 7 habits at home. A BINGO card and 6 chips (cardstock) came home for every child on October 30th. A BINGO is five finished activities in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line. All the activities would be a full card BINGO.
Directions if your family participates:
Choose a square to complete with your family.
Fill out a BINGO “chip”. Be sure to circle the B*I*N*G*O for the column and the HABIT number for the square.
Turn in your finished “chips” which will be hung up on the Moraine BINGO board in the hallway.
Celebrate a personal BINGO with your family!
If you take a picture of your BINGO activity, please send it in for our School BINGO board.

Mental Health 4 Question Input Survey
For the 2023-2024 school year, Northville Public Schools is applying to receive grant funding through the State School Aid Act. This funding is designated for activities, services, or products necessary to improve or maintain the mental health of students and staff and/or improve student safety.
We are seeking input and feedback from district stakeholder groups, including students, parents and staff members, as we begin to develop a plan for the most appropriate use of the funds to support the mental health and safety needs of students, within the parameters of the grant.
Your input is valued greatly and we hope you take a few minutes and participate in this brief survey. We look forward to learning about your thoughts, ideas and priorities for use of these funds to support mental health and improve student safety.
