The Importance of Student Recognition
All of us want to be seen and heard. We want to be recognized for the good things we do and the effort we put forth. Middle school students are no different! At Wredling, we look at several ways to recognize students.
Honor Roll: recognizes students for grades
RedHawk Pride Award: recognized for students for a wide variety of reasons that teachers decide upon, from academic improvement to kindness. This is our program to recognize a wide group of students for many reasons. We give students a certificate and a RedHawk Pride lanyard and publish their names in our Friday Forecast.
Assemblies: In our assemblies, we recognize students for the 4 As- academics, activities, athletics, and the arts.
Team Awards: At different times during the year some of our teams recognize students for a variety of reasons.
In Class: Our teachers recognize the hard work and effort of our students through specific praise. This is something we look for in our observation of teachers.
It is important to recognize academics, but for all students, it is important to recognize their effort, kindness, and the many other great things they do at school.
Enjoy your weekend!
Tim

Service Learning Class / Northern Illinois Food Bank
This quarter, the Service Learning students are planning a "Pick-Up & Drop Off" event. First, we will choose a day for interested students to "pick up" the grounds of any litter they can find on the WMS campus. Second, we are encouraging others to "drop off" pantry items to Support the Northern Illinois Food Pantry. We will be collecting any non-perishables the week of December 12-December 16 and storing the donations outside the main office. Thanks so much for any support you might be willing to provide!
Monday, December 12th: Canned fruits and veggies
Tuesday, December 13th: Boxed rice, pasta, meal starters
Wednesday, December 14th: Cereals/Breakfast Bars/Fruit Snacks
Thursday, December 15th: Canned tomatoes/sauces, and canned fish/chicken

We Want Your Photos!
Parents, the yearbook club is collecting photos of students from sports, music or WMS clubs/activities from August-Dec. If you have photos of your student and their peers in WMS sponsored concerts, plays, sports events or other club activities, please email them to Mr. Massie for submission to the yearbook at timothy.massie@d303.org.
You can also submit directly from your phone with THIS LINK! You will need to use the access code "redhawks". Thanks for sharing your memories with the yearbook club.
End of the 2nd Quarter is Approaching!
The 2nd quarter is quickly coming to an end on Wednesday, December 21st. Please take a few minutes to make sure that your child’s assignments are in. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teachers.
PARENTS-
Due to allergies and asthma, we are asking that students not use perfume or cologne at school. For those with allergies and asthma, perfumes and colognes can be a trigger and can cause an attack. If students shower regularly and use deodorant, they should not have a need for cologne or perfume. Thank you for helping us keep kids safe and healthy at Wredling!
Calendar Reminders!
2nd Quarter Non-Attendance Days for Students
December 22-December 30 - Winter Break
PLEASE NOTE ON YOUR CALENDAR!
The Peer Leadership Program for Incoming St. Charles East Freshmen
Dear Parents of 8th Graders Attending East,
Peer Leadership is an extracurricular program that matches selected incoming freshmen with juniors and seniors who make the transition into high school fun and easy and mentor them throughout the year. Because this program meets during the school day, it has to be put into a student’s schedule when registering for next year’s classes. Although we would like to be able to offer this to all interested incoming freshmen, our numbers are limited by available classroom space and our budget. Therefore, in order to start the selection process, interested students should apply using the application found below in this Friday Forecast.
If your child is interested in the program, please fill out the application and e-mail it to Jim Reed, the Peer Leadership Coordinator (James.Reed@d303.org). Completed applications must be received no later than Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. For more information about Peer Leadership, please attend Future Saints Night in January.
We hope to hear from you!
Attention 8th Grade Families:
Eighth graders, are you looking for a high school experience that offers:
the chance to join a small learning community?
a choice and voice in learning activities?
opportunities to explore career pathways?
project-based seminars with hands-on learning?
a flexible schedule with a later start or earlier end to the day?
If any of these criteria match your academic goals or vision for school, Compass Academy could be an excellent option for you. Compass Academy students can choose to attend either part-time or full-time at Compass, and they still have access to courses, sports, activities, and events at St. Charles East/North as well.
To learn more about Compass, please attend the Open House on December 13th from 6:30-8:00 pm. This brief information video may also provide helpful information.
If you are unable to attend the Open House but would like to attend a tour at Compass, please complete this form and someone from Compass will contact you soon.
