Principal's Message
03/01/2023
It's March already! We are down to the last three months of school! February flew by and we have had another month of learning and growing. I challenge you to ask your student what's something they didn't know at the beginning of the year that they know now. I just asked my kid and she told me that chemical reactions happen after mixing two substances together. I used to be amazed when they were little at how much they learned in such a short amount of time (remember how they used to copy whatever was said by adults in the house?)... Everyday, it is still happening. Students - whether they like it or not, or want to or not - are learning something. My hope is that our students become life long learners - and never stop wanting to know more about anything and everything. Knowledge is power!
Our 9th grade students will be participating in presentations with our counselors. It's never too early to talk to our students about goal setting and planning for the next 4 years. Counselors will be reviewing A-G and graduation requirements, and going over their 4 year plans. For our older students, please have them log into the California Colleges to show and discuss their current plan with you. We want our students to learn how to set goals AND make a plan to get there. This is such an important life lesson!
The progress report grading period for 3rd quarter just closed. Please log in to AERIES to see their progress report. I have attached the how to at the bottom of the newsletter. I recommend checking in with your student's teachers if there are any questions. Checking the AERIES portal is one step at home that could help our students be successful... and it's important to maintain communication between teachers and families. Please also double check your contact information in AERIES, we want to make sure we are able to contact families, in case of any emergency.
Our new online tutoring program is NOW available to our students. We are so excited to bring this program to our school! Our students will be able to access this program at anytime to get help on any homework. This program can help with all subject areas and bilingual help is also available. We are hoping that this service will provide additional support for students that cannot stay after school for labs. I will be sending an email once this program goes live, so be sure to look out for the directions on how to access this great resource for your student. This program has tutors available that can help with essays, math problems, science concepts, and just about anything! We are excited to offer this resource to our students! Please see the link below for more information.
On 3/17, we will be hosting our first ever Return of the Legendary Wolves Alumni Event! We will be having over 100 West High graduates and alumni come to the school to speak to our students about their accomplishments over the years!
As we close out these last 3 months, please don't stop having open communication and discussions with your students. Even though they act like they don't want to talk, it shows that you are still willing to connect and reconnect with them.
Thank you, as always, for your support from home!
Sincerely,
Annabelle Lee
