Parents/guardians of 11th grade students!

If you have not already done so, you must submit your 11th-grade student's Vaccine Verifications (Immunization form 3231), stating your student has received one meningococcal conjugate vaccine booster, as required by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, by Friday, October 6. If you have questions, please email CAMHSimmunization@fultonschools.org.

If we do not receive this form, your child will be at risk of withdrawal from Cambridge High School. You may get this vaccine through your pediatrician, family physician, local urgent care center, or the North Fulton Department of Health. In addition, many local pharmacies and grocery store pharmacies offer this vaccine. The required documentation (Immunization Form 3231) may be emailed to CAMHSImmunization@fultonschools.org

The PSAT is completely digital this year. In order to take the test, students must have a Fulton County Schools-issued device. Students are not allowed to take the PSAT on a personal device. Please have your student check one out from the Media Center immediately if they need this device.

Cambridge will administer the PSAT 8/9 to all 9th and 10th-grade students and the PSAT/NMSQT to 11th-grade students on Thursday, October 12, 2023. 12th-grade students will not report to school on Thursday, October 12, and will participate in the asynchronous day. Seniors are encouraged to use this day for college visits, completing make-up work, or working on college applications. Please read the following information and the referenced materials for details regarding the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT.

We are happy to report that most of our students are wearing their IDs throughout the day with no issues. We set up a system for students to get temporary IDs if they forgot their ID. However, this system is already being abused. Please note that there is a process for forgotten and lost IDs and a repercussion for students not having their ID.

• Students should wear their IDs every day. Every period. At all times when they are in the building (including in the hallways).
• If a student has lost ID, they should go to the Bridge East Front Office and pay $10 for a new ID and lanyard.
• If a student forgot their ID, they can go to the Bridge East Front Office for a temporary ID (this is a one-time help, not an everyday fix).
• Students who receive a temporary ID must bring it back the next day. If they do not bring it back, they will receive a detention and pay $10 for the temporary IDm as well as $10 for a new ID to be printed for them.
• Students who do not request a temporary ID risk getting a detention for not having an ID while in the building.
• IDs should be worn on a lanyard around the student's neck to be visible at all times.

Fulton County Schools takes our students' personal/social and physical safety seriously. In order to proactively address concerns of depression and child/adolescent suicide, the district is providing faculty suicide prevention training and a student suicide prevention lesson as part of the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program. The SOS program has successfully increased help-seeking by students concerned about themselves or a friend. It is the only school-based suicide prevention program selected by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for its National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices that addresses suicide risk and depression while reducing suicide attempts. The SOS program goals are as follows:

• To explain that suicide is a preventable tragedy that often occurs as a result of untreated depression.
• To train students to identify serious depression and the potential risk of suicide in a friend.
• To impress upon students that they can help themselves or a friend by taking the simple step of talking to a responsible adult about their concerns.

Cambridge Counselors will deliver to:

• 9th grade student - Signs of Suicide prevention lesson during B2 on Tuesday, October 17
• 10th - 11th grade students - Refresher Signs of Suicide prevention lesson during B2 on Wednesday, October 25.

Parents and guardians who do not want their child to participate in the Signs of Suicide prevention lesson should complete the form at the link below by Friday, October 13. Opt-out forms should be left at the Bridge West front office. If we do not receive an opt-out form, we assume your child is permitted to participate in this program. If you have questions about the SOS prevention lesson, please get in touch with your Cambridge Counselor.

Our counselors are holding help sessions on Tuesday, October 3, during both lunches to help students with college applications and to start planning for spring dual enrollment classes. The help session will be held in the Coffee Shop at the back of the cafeteria.

Please encourage your student to attend this help session if he/she needs assistance with college applications or dual enrollment. Counselors will also be available during this time to answer questions. Our counselors cannot meet individually with each student who needs assistance in these areas.

New B2 Options (Monday - Thursday) include an opportunity to get help in a class, play basketball in the AUX gym, read in the Media Center, have a quiet study hall, practice in performing arts, or go to a club meeting.

All returning dual enrollment students planning to take a college class during spring term must complete the DE Student Advisement Form. This form is due to the Cambridge Counseling Department (Bridge West) by November 1, 2023 (or earlier, if possible).

Students taking a dual enrollment course for the first time must complete the Dual Enrollment Contract, due November 1, 2023 (or earlier, if possible). The Dual Enrollment Checklist can also assist students through the dual enrollment process. The Georgia Department of Education will launch a new tutoring program that is free to all public school students. The program is called GaTutor and will launch this fall.

At Fulton County Schools, we prioritize student safety. Emergencies happen, and when they do, preparedness is the key to handling them well. We ask that all parents or guardians check their contact information in the Parent Portal and ensure that:

• At least one emergency contact (not a parent/guardian) is listed for each student in the Parent Portal.
• Ensure that we have a current phone number listed for the parents or guardians of their student(s) in the Parent Portal.

If an emergency were to happen, we need to be able to reach the parent/guardian effectively. In the event the parent/guardians are not accessible, the school must have an approved person to contact regarding your student.

The Cambridge High School Governance Council is collecting comments for 30 days (closes October 7) regarding a Closed-Campus Attendance Requirements Flexibility Option that provides upperclassmen the ability to leave campus during their lunch period or to leave campus during a designated time and return for class later in the date.

Cambridge High School Student & Parent Handbook

Fulton County Schools began sending messages via text to all families last week. The first text to families offered an opportunity for families to participate in a five-question survey about their student's attendance. The results from the survey will help the district to determine any barriers to attendance families may be experiencing to target outreach to families in need.

Ongoing, the district will send text messages to parents or guardians of all students with an absenteeism rate higher than 5%. These messages are personalized to the student and are designed to increase family engagement in promoting positive attendance.

Camp MAGIK, a healing camp for bereaved children and adolescents, is announcing its fall 2023 camp session. This session will be held at The North Georgia Christian Camp in Clarkesville, Georgia, October 27-29. Applications need to be postmarked or emailed to us no later than October 13, 2023. Real Talk, the virtual event series for Black students and their parents, is back! The season begins with two nights to help students decide whether an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) or another college is right for them. During the Open House at Guilford College, students will take a tour of campus and learn more about academics and team advising. They will also have the opportunity to get to know their Admission Counselor and will receive free admission to the Guilford College Football game at 1:00 pm. Would you like to know where you score on the SAT or ACT test? Join Best in Class for a mock SAT or ACT test on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 (school holiday) at our Johns Creek or Milton centers, starting at 10:00 a.m. and completing at 1:15 p.m. This test will be followed by a private consultation to discuss how to improve your score.

Applerouth Tutoring is offering face-to-face SAT Prep classes at Cambridge High School. The class includes 20 hours of group tutoring and three mock tests. The course runs from August 26 through November 1, 2023. Seats are limited!

We are always looking for ways to build culture at CHS, and this year, we want to more frequently recognize students and staff who epitomize Be the B.R.I.D.G.E. We would like to reward these students and staff for their continuous hard work through donated gift cards. So, we are asking if your family is able and willing to pitch in a small gift card between 5-20 dollars; we could really make a few students’ and teachers’ day. Have your student bring gift cards of small denominations to the Bridge East Front Office.

Starbucks, Target, Amazon, Publix, Dunkin Donuts, and local restaurants are all surefire ways to make someone’s day but feel free to clean out that kitchen catch-all drawer.
