We Love Our Grandparents!
Celebrating Grandparents Day: A Time to Cherish the Wisdom of Generations
As September rolls in, so does a heartwarming occasion that calls for love, appreciation, and joyful reunions – Grandparents Day! This special day, observed on the first Sunday after Labor Day in the United States, is an opportunity to honor the extraordinary role that grandparents play in our lives.
Grandparents are a treasure trove of wisdom and stories, a bridge between the past and present, and a source of unconditional love. This Grandparents Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day and ways to celebrate it.
1. Gratitude and Reflection: Grandparents have lived through decades of experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Take some time to sit down with them and listen to their stories. Their life lessons and experiences are invaluable.
2. Quality Time: Spend quality time together. Whether it's sharing a meal, playing games, or going for a walk, the simple act of being present can create lasting memories.
3. Handmade Gifts: A heartfelt, handmade gift can be a meaningful gesture. Help your children create cards or crafts that express their love and appreciation.
4. Family Gatherings: Organize a family gathering where multiple generations can come together to celebrate. It's a chance for grandparents to connect with their grandchildren and vice versa.
5. Record Memories: Encourage your grandparents to share their memories, perhaps even recording them for future generations. These stories are like heirlooms of wisdom.
6. Acts of Kindness: If distance separates you from your grandparents, consider sending a thoughtful gift or writing a heartfelt letter to let them know you're thinking of them.
Grandparents Day reminds us of the immeasurable value of family bonds and the role grandparents play in shaping our lives. It's a time to celebrate the enduring love, support, and wisdom they provide. So, let's make this Grandparents Day a memorable one by showing our gratitude and affection to these remarkable individuals who hold a special place in our hearts.

Attendance Matters-Every Day Counts!
School attendance is of paramount importance as it lays the foundation for a student's academic success and personal development. Regular attendance ensures that students have consistent access to quality education, enabling them to acquire essential knowledge and skills. It also fosters social interactions, critical for emotional and social growth.
Moreover, attending school instills discipline and punctuality, crucial life skills. Consistent attendance sets the stage for future opportunities, including higher education and career prospects, ultimately shaping individuals into informed and responsible citizens ready to contribute positively to society.
Let's commit to ensuring that our scholars attend school each day, all day!
4-H Visits Davis' 5th Graders!
4-H is a widely recognized youth development program that empowers young people through hands-on learning experiences. The "4-H" stands for head, heart, hands, and health, representing the four essential elements of the program.
4-H offers a diverse range of activities and projects, from agriculture and animal husbandry to leadership and community service. It fosters personal growth, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility in young participants, helping them become confident, capable, and contributing members of society.
Through clubs, camps, and educational programs, 4-H aims to inspire youth to reach their full potential while promoting positive values and life skills.
We are proud that our local cooperative extension agency provides 4-H opportunities to our 5th graders at Davis!

The Big 5 @ Davis!
Davis' teachers are hard at work participating in the Coaching Cycle, which provides indivdiual support to teachers as they work to ensure our scholars receive a high quality education! Teachers are observed in many areas. Five of our BIG areas to look for are:
- Peer collaboration: Boys and girls are working with and learning from each other
- Small group instruction: This allows us to reduce our scholar teacher ratio and provide either remediation or acceleration to our children
- Effective classroom management: Boys and girls have to feel safe in order to learn to their highest potential. This also means that rules, routines, and procedures have to been in place and reinforced to keep everyone safe and learning!
- Following our lesson plans every day (Tier 1 Instruction): This allows our scholars to access the Alabama state standards for their grade level
- Adherince to our Master Schedule: Staying with our Master Schedule ensures that our children receive the right amount of time in each subject that is needed to learn and maintain skills.
