Principal's Note
Ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is a paramount concern at Meadow View Elementary. We conduct various drills throughout the year, including active threat drills, which allow us to practice our responses to emergencies and equip our students with lifelong skills to handle situations that could potentially occur anywhere.
This message is to inform you that our first active threat drill is scheduled for Tuesday morning. The administration, Student Services, and teachers have prepared our students for the drill and are available to address any questions or provide support to your student if needed. To assist with this, teachers have used resources such as the District Active Threat Teaching Slides for Kids.
We anticipate cooler weather next week. As part of our realistic scenarios, some students will be evacuating while others will be barricading. Please note that students will not have the opportunity to retrieve their coats from their cubbies during the drill, so we kindly request that they come dressed in layers and wearing warm clothing.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Mrs. Bell

Teacher parent conferences
Good afternoon families,
We believe in partnering with parents in order to provide an amazing education for children - every child, every day. For parent/teacher conferences this year, we want to provide flexibility for parents, families, and educators so that 100% of students have a parent/family/teacher conference.
During the week of October 16th-20th classroom teachers are offering a 20-30 minute teacher-parent conference.
At this time of year, the volume of communication coming to you from us and the Sun Prairie Area School District can be a little challenging, especially if you have multiple children in different grades and buildings throughout the District. This email is meant to condense some of that information and to help you navigate the conference sign up. If you have already signed up for a conference, there is no need to duplicate your efforts.
Please locate your classroom teacher's name and sign up for a 20-30 minutes conference. Our specialists are offering 10-minute conferences for parents that want to meet with them.

This is my favorite time of year to read picture books aloud with my students! There is such a fun selection of fall, Halloween, and Day of the Dead books! Recently 5th grade classes took a genre personality test to figure out what types of books best fit their personalities to hopefully find some great new books to read this year. 4th grade classes are currently doing research on the meaning behind their names and will be presenting them in the next couple of weeks. Upper grades will be getting more exposure to using Google apps on their Chromebooks and STEM projects will start to make their appearance soon.
Music with Mrs. Glover 🎵
September was a fantastic first month of school! Our Family Drum Night with Dancing Drum was a huge success and students, families and staff all seemed to have enjoyed themselves.
In October, we will be diving more into instrument expectations, so students will be provided lots of opportunities to use a wide variety of percussion instruments (including xylophones).
On another note, here are some important dates concerning performances! More information will be coming out as the date approaches. For now, please keep these dates in mind:
Kindergarten: May 20-24 Informances. On your student's 2nd music class of the week, caregivers will be invited to the music room to observe and participate in a regular music class with a short song performance at the end.
1st Grade: May 28-31 Informances. Same information as Kindergarten.
2nd Grade: Wednesday, May 1 @ 1:30-2ish. Music Concert. All classrooms 4k-5 and caregivers are invited to attend the performance and cheer on our musicians.
3rd Grade: Thursday, February 8th (time TBD). Community Dance. This is my first time trying something like this so more information to come as I organize logistics.
4th Grade: Monday, March 11 @ 7pm. Perform at the All City Choir Festival at West High School. Students from all grade levels across the district perform together. All students will get a chance to perform at an Otter Connection the week prior in case some are not able to attend the evening performance.
5th Grade: Wednesday, March 20 @1:30-2ish. Music Concert. All classrooms 4k-5 and caregivers are invited to attend the performance.
Again, more information will be shared as these performances approach.

October is Bullying Prevention Month
By Mrs. Leon
How Your Child Can Learn to Advocate for Others
Over the past few weeks, during WIN time, the Meadow View Otters have been focusing their learning on preventing bullying. If your child is aware of someone experiencing bullying or unfair treatment from their peers and is unsure how to intervene, it's important to teach them the steps they can take to support their peer. Often, the reason they confided in you is because they feel uneasy about the situation.
By educating your child about the wrongfulness of bullying and encouraging them to stand up for those who may not be able to or are hesitant to do so for themselves, you will help instill a sense of self-worth and independence in them. These admirable qualities will benefit them in various aspects of their life. Many instances of bullying can be curbed when someone stands up against them. It's crucial for your child to understand that responding with the same bullying behaviors is never acceptable.
REMEMBER:
- Teach them to use the power of words, not physical aggression, even if another child initiates a physical altercation.
- If they feel physically threatened or are enduring physical abuse, advise them to remove themselves from the situation, walk away, and seek a trusted adult for assistance.
- Encourage them to consider how they would feel if no one defended them in a similar situation.
What is the Difference Between Conflict, Rude, Mean, and Bullying?
At Meadow View, we want to ensure that every student feels loved, safe, celebrated, and has access to a high-level education every day. To achieve this, it's important to distinguish between various interpersonal situations that may arise at school: conflict, rudeness, meanness, and bullying.
Please refer to the attached graph to understand the differences between these terms. We believe that by understanding these distinctions, we can better support our students and maintain a positive school environment
There is no cell phone usage during school hours. Please click here to review the policy.
