Grandparents Night on September 12, 2024
Grandparents Night will be Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM. We will have classrooms open, have a photo booth area in the cafeteria. We will have cookies in the pod areas. We will also have the Book Fair open because we know grandparents love to encourage reading with their grandchildren. If your child's grandparents are not around or live far away, feel free to invite a "grand-person" or "Very Important Person" to come that night. This event is meant to be a special night between one or two special people and your child. Parents are encouraged to wait until conferences, Donuts for Dad or Mornings for Mom events coming later in the year. We also encourage you to make arrangements for younger or older children so the night is a special bonding time between grandparents/grand-person and the child. An RSVP form will come home. Grandparents/grand-person should bring their phone to take pictures and their wallet to buy books at the Book Fair.
Book Fair
Scholastic Book Fair will run from September 9 - September 13th. Students will be able to shop at a scheduled time during the week. It will be open for grandparent's night on September 12th from 5pm - 7pm. E-wallet is available by signing up at Scholastic.com. It makes shopping convenient and the students do not have to bring money to school. Parents can set up accounts and control their children's spending.
Homecoming Parade
The Homecoming Parade at HNHS will be Friday, September 20, 2023, starting at 5:00 PM. Please be at the HNHS parking lot by the Andrews float by 4:30-4:45 PM. A sign up sheet will come home soon. All students must have a guardian or adult walking with them. That helps us ensure all students go home with the right person.
Fall Picture Day
Thursday, September 12th is fall picture day. Order form will come home soon. Checks are made to Frederick's Photography. You can also order online at this link. Order forms are not required to be turned in if you order online. Pick out your outfit and be ready to SMILE.
Early Release Days
We have two early release days coming up for parent teacher conferences. Those dates are Thursday, September 26th and Tuesday, October 1, 2024. School will be dismissed those days at 3:00 PM. Please mark your calendar now so you can make arrangements for your child. Parent Teacher conferences will be scheduled in the evening those two days. Teachers will be creating sign up links in Parent Square.
Cross Country
Our 4th and 5th graders have been practicing for the HCCSC Elementary Fun Run. It will be held at Salamonie School on Tuesday, September 17th. Our coaches this year are Mrs. Booge and Mrs. Elliott.
- The first race will begin at 5:15 with each subsequent race beginning upon conclusion of the previous race.
- We will run races in the following order:
- Grade 4 girls
- Grade 4 boys
- Grade 5 girls
- Grade 5 boys
IPADS
IPADS are coming home every day. If we have a school cancellation, we will have a synchronous learning day. That means teachers will be online through WebEx at specific times. The elementary schedule is as follows: Work posted by 10:00 AM. Teacher live on WebEx from 10:00-11:30. Lunch will be 11:30-12:30. Live instruction on WebEx from 12:30-1:30.
Choir
From Mrs. McElhaney:
Choir is open to Andrews students in fourth and fifth grade. Permission slips are due September 3rd. First practice will be September 5th. They will meet every Thursday morning from 7:45-8:30. Please do not drop off your child before 7:30, as we want to make sure someone is here to supervise. Our first semester activities include performing at the Veterans’ Day program and singing holiday carols for the other students. Permission slips have been given out to students who expressed interest, but more permission slips are available in the music room.
A.L.I.C.E. Drill in September
In September, we will have an A.L.I.C.E. drill. A is for Alert. L is for Lock Down. I is for Inform. C is for Counter. E is for Evacuate. The A.L.I.C.E. drill is for practicing what to do in the event of an "active shooter". I know this is a scary thought and we handle it as carefully as we can with young children. Our goal is to keep everyone safe and have a plan. We will read the book I'm Not Scared...I'm Prepared! by Julia Cook. It presents the plan in a format for elementary students.
