Legislative Updates:
The bills we have been working on this session have all officially ended. They were referred to subcommittees or held over for consideration or just didn’t get heard by committee.
- The House File 211 authored by Rep Kiel from Crookston, actually made it along the furthest. It made it to the House of Representatives Health and Human Services Finance Committee meeting on April 8th only to be laid over for possible inclusion in the Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill (H.F. 1638) It was not included in later hearings.
- The other bill that made it to committee hearing were HF 377 and SF 809, the tax deduction for charity care bills. It did not make it past the committees.
- The Insurance Mandate bill requiring coverage, HF 1264 and SF 1309, did not make it to committee hearings despite many acupuncturists calling, emailing and meetings with key legislators.
Save the Date!
Aaron Schindler will be giving a more detailed legislative presentation at Northwestern Health Science University on May 19th for the Coffee Chat Group for the CAOM Alumni Association at noon.
In addition we at AOMAM have been meeting with the Department of Human Services (DHS) with the purpose to bring them into compliance with the statute Rep. Abeler passed a couple years ago to pay for all acupuncture services according to their scope.
We believe there will be a series of meeting as the DHS staff are not fully informed as to the scope of what the statute covers. We will lead them thru the conditions and treatments.
How You Can Help!
We need to provide evidence-based research for specific conditions to the DHS, including:
1. Nausea, Vomit, GI and stomach upsets
Join us at the next DHS meeting!
We welcome our members who are available to attend the next DHS meeting to send an email to legislative@aomam.org.
Commitment will be a couple of hours of identifying and organizing research to be presented to DHS for them to review at the June meeting. (Date/time has yet to be determined).
