Due to safety concerns and the demands on the main office, we do not accept food deliveries of any kind. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Students who failed one or more courses for the second marking period may be eligible for credit recovery through Edgenuity. If Edgenuity quarter recovery is completed, the failing grade(s) will improve to a 59.5% (D) for the second marking period. To enroll in Edgenuity, please click on the following link and complete the form: Edgenuity Marking Period Recovery (MP2). You will need your grade information in order to complete the form. If you are unsure if you failed a course, be sure to check HAC (Home Access Center) to view your report card (available on 2/6/24), Schoology, or ask your teacher. Not all courses are available for recovery through Edgenuity.

Eligible students must complete this form by the end of the school day February 16, 2024. Email Ms. Bridges (kjbridges@smcps.org) if you have questions.

Free Tutoring is available to LHS students from LHS teachers in the areas of MATH, ELA, SCIENCE, and SPANISH. There is tutoring available on site before school, during lunch, and after school. There is also virtual tutoring available. Contact your child’s teacher, guidance counselor, or Theresa Smith at tmsmith@smcps.org for information.

Mrs. Watson's Physics classes work on preparing their projects to compete in the "Science Buddies 2024 Engineering Challenge". For this challenge, students must design a rubber band car using provided materials.

Our Freshman Academy hosted a Read-In event at the Tech Center on Friday February 16. Special guest and BOE member, Mary Washington, did a "Read Aloud". Thank you Freshman Academy Staff and Students for hosting this wonderful event! Quarter two Freshman Academy awards were also presented during this event.

Freshman English classes will be starting Literature of the Civil Rights unit in February. They will study Martin Luther King Jr.'s, "I Have a Dream" and "Letter from Birmingham Jail" as well as informational texts about the civil rights movement to add historical context.

The Freshman Academy visited The National Museum of African American History and Culture on February 1 and organized an African American "Read-In" event at the Tech Center Dohrman Room on Friday, February 16.

In U.S. History, students study the social, economic, and political conditions that confronted the African American community in the 1920s.

Each week our Students Leadership Council will highlight an influential Black Figure! The Theme for Black History Month this year is "AFRICAN AMERICANS AND THE ARTS".

Our LHS basketball players volunteered at Leonardtown Middle last week. They helped officiate games, helped coach, and even played with some of LMS Teams during their MTSS Basketball Tournament!

Every February for Leonardtown High School students signifies the excitement that their annual Model United Nations Conference brings. This conference attended by students grades 5-12 (including private school students) “provides students with the opportunity to learn about world issues and participate in diplomatic negotiation in an attempt to address world problems from the perspective of different countries.” See the full article from the Baynet here.

• The Maryland School Report Card provides information about our school's performance for the 2022-2023 school year. On Monday (2/12), Freshmen will have Freshman Advisory during A lunch. Mentors will walk freshmen through the process of registration and give them options to think about before they meet with their guidance counselor in March.

There are so many fantastic things happening in our efforts to support SMCPS students with disabilities. Please use this survey to share your praise of a LHS SPED teacher or support person.

Parents or guardians of children receiving special education and related services were mailed the Maryland Special Education Parent Involvement Survey from MSDE during the week of February 12, 2024. Parents are asked to complete the survey and return it in the postage-paid envelope by May 24, 2024. The Survey may also be completed online. • Evening Counseling: SMCPS is once again offering School-Based Counseling Support in the evening for SMCPS students. Counseling support focuses on the following areas: Healthy Relationships, Social Skills, Self-Esteem, Stress Management, Worry, Sadness, and Emotional Regulation. Services will be located at Margaret Brent Middle School and Greenview Knolls Elementary School on Tuesday evenings from 4-7:30 p.m. Please complete the Parent Contact Form for Evening Counseling to request services.

The Common Application, which is accepted by more than 900 schools, helps streamline an essential part of the admissions process for students. Through the platform, first-time applicants can apply to multiple colleges at once. 3. When is the transcript due (Please enter due date)

4. Where are you sending the transcripts? If they need to be mailed, add the address. If you are picking up a sealed, official copy, put your name- pick up. (You would pick up the transcript in Guidance. Please allow at least 5 business days for the transcripts to be processed.)

5. Request and Finish.

Please email your counselor to let them know you requested a transcript for a scholarship.

Healthy St. Mary's Partnership (HSMP) has some important updates including a community garden opening and Pathways Stronger Parenting is hosting a "Parenting Cafe" and a Community Mental Health 5k. Please see this pdf for the updates.

MedStar St. Mary's Hospital is hosting a Women's Wellness Day on March 16, 2024 at FCTC from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm. Breakfast and lunch included. This free event will highlight different aspects of women's health. Please call Health Connections for more information and to register. The number is 301- 475- 6019.

If your student took an MCAP assessment in Spring 2023 (ELA 10, Algebra or Geometry, or LS-MISA), they will be receiving their score reports within the next week or so. If you have questions on how to interpret the scores, please utilize the resources below.

The 2023-2024 Winter Athletic Season is underway and we just want to remind everyone of the SMAC athletic policies in place.

1. All tickets are on-line through GoFan . NO Cash sales. Free admission for children 8 and under.
2. NO outside food or drinks allowed including water bottles.
3. NO bags or purses allowed. Only small handheld purses allowed.
4. Our concessions will accept cash and cards during most events.
5. Lastly, be mindful of comments as fans of the game and spectators to the student athletes.

Parents who are dropping students off at school in the morning should use the parking lot lane closest to the building. Please do not park in in a space and wait to drop your student off. Unfortunately, parking is very limited for both students and staff. Utilizing extra parking spaces for this purpose can create an issue where there is nowhere for staff or student drivers to park. Additionally, please do not drive down the middle parking lot lane in order to drop a student at school. We appreciate your help!

Students, please make sure your laptop is charged each day. Bring your charger to school in case your battery runs out.

You can do one of two things:

1. Go the the Media Center in your School. They can assess you a fine so that you can pay using My School Bucks.
2. Go directly to the DELL store. You can purchase directly from their website and have it shipped to your home.

Bus passes should only be requested when students have a change in physical address or when there is an emergency situation and a student needs to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop. Bus passes will not be granted for students simply wanting to go visit with a friend.

Need to obtain a bus pass?

Visit this site to submit a request electronically, or parents can write a note or send an email to Ms. Revis at btrevis@smcps.org. All relevant information must be included in the written request.

Bus Information includes: Student name, address, parent phone number, existing bus stop to be used, bus #, date, medical concerns, destination address, destination phone # and reason for the pass.
