Puketapu School Newsletter
Term 2 2020 - Wednesday 17 June
Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
From our Principal
Kia ora koutou,
Ataahua Arts (Music, Dance, Visual Art, Drama)
It has been amazing walking through the school (in learning areas and outside) and seeing and hearing all the art in our school. The learning areas are looking amazing with all the colourful visual art that the akonga are creating.
Wellbeing & Kindness
While many people will feel a weight lifted off their shoulders returning to Level 1, there are many who will still be worried about what the future holds.
There are thousands of people who have lost their jobs or who are facing considerable uncertainty. There are many Kiwis who are immunocompromised and reluctant to go outdoors. Many of you will either have people in your own family or in your networks that are going through tough times. So will many of our whanau in our community.
We’ve shown how kind we can be to one another during tough times. Let’s keep up that kindness here in our Puketapu Community. Keep practising kindness yourself every day and praising kindness when you see it.
Have a positive week ahead.
KIA KAHA - KIA MĀIA - KIA MANAWANUI
Matua Ngatai
From our Kaitiaki
Kia ora, my name is Tiki.
Last week I was happy that I could play football again. I know some of you are still waiting to start sports next term but it’s worth the wait.
This week my class is focusing on showing kindness though being supportive.
These examples of supportive comments can be used in sports as well as in the playground:
- Good job
- Do your best
- You can do this
- That’s okay, you’ll get it next time
- Keep trying
- Don't give up
Keep being active and remember Kia Manawanui.
Kowhai 4 and 5 - Science Experiments
We have been doing science experiments and following the correct procedure, writing a lab report. We used red cabbage juice and then added all sorts of ingredients and it changed colours.
Budding Musicians in Totara 1
Lucky Book Club
Last day for orders is tomorrow - Thursday 18 June.
Sports Corner
NETBALL
Games start in week one of term 3 at the Waiwhakaiho Courts. A notice will go home next week with teams and coaches.
The Year 3 and 4 team still doesn't have a coach yet. This isn't essential but it will mean that as parents you will need to work out each week who will go on the court and support the players. Someone will also need to be responsible for the gear bag.
Fees have been reduced by Netball Taranaki to ensure that cost was not a barrier to children being able to play, so the reduced costs are:
- Year 3-4 $20
- Year 5-6 $25
- Year 7-8 $30
Fees will be added to your account. Please pay these as soon as possible so we can complete our registrations.
Mrs Astwood and Mrs Martin will let the players know when to come and collect their uniforms.
MINIBALL AND BASKETBALL
Games will start in week one of term 3 at the TSB Stadium. A notice will go home next week with teams and coaches.
The Year 5/6 team needs another 4 players please - without them we will not be able to field a team.
We have not had any information regarding fees yet. As soon as we do we will pass that information on.
Mrs Astwood and Mrs Martin will let the players know when to come and collect their uniforms.
CANOE POLO
This is for Year 7/8 students. All information including registration forms are at the office.

Well done Nevaeh!
Breakfast Club is Back!
Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for the rest of this term.
Come along for a free breakfast, chat and hang out with friends before school, any time between 8.15am and 8.45am
We would love some more parent helpers particularly for a Wednesday so we can run breakfast club for four days. If you are keen, please let us know.
Headlice...
Please check all the heads in your household and treat everyone. Keep checking everyone every day for three weeks to make sure no eggs escape to hatch and continue the cycle
coming and Going
If you take them out of school early, they must be signed out at the office. Unless you have phoned the school to request that they meet you somewhere, they should be collected from the office and signed out please.
Wet Weather Ahead!
If your child loves to play in the rain (and we know it is SO MUCH FUN!) please make sure they have a change of clothes for afterwards.
Well done Road Safe
We are also delighted that our Road Safety efforts have won us $500 thanks to Roadsafe Taranaki!
