Platte Purchase Parent News
December 1
It's been a great week back, Pirates! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break.
Before we left for break we had our CANstruction contest and we were able to donate over 3000 cans to our local food bank. Thank you so much for helping us help others this holiday season. Our student's did an awesome job working together and we were very thankful to have Christel Bell from Fox 4, Chiefs Cheerleaders, our very own Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Drew White, join us as our judges for CANstruction.

Student Reminders
Chromebook Reminders
We need students to bring their Chromebooks with them every day that school is in session. Please make sure that they are also charging them every night. Their Chromebooks are essential to their learning experiences here at school. The library has very few loaner Chromebooks to pass out on a daily basis so if your student has an insurance claim filed against their Chromebook, please take care of those claims as soon as possible.
Also, parents please remind your student(s) to stop letting other students, friends, or anyone else use or borrow your chromebook charger. If it gets broke, lost, or stolen you are responsible for whatever happens to that charger. It is $20 to replace it.
Buses
Please remember that students are not allowed at any time to ride home with friends on the bus, unless it is the same bus but different stop.
Volunteers Needed for our PACE Program
Platte Purchase Families,
My name is Tyler Crawford and I am the PACE (Pirate After Class Events) Coordinator for Platte County. We started PACE a few years ago at both of our middle schools to provide more opportunities for our students to participate in after-school activities. PACE has been a great way for more students to stay involved outside of athletics and we want to do everything we can to continue to offer this program at both middle schools. That being said, at this time we do not have enough staff members available to offer PACE at Platte Purchase Middle School. We are reaching out today to gauge the interest of parent volunteers. These volunteers would facilitate an afterschool activity for a small group of middle school students one day a week from 3:00-4:00. Some activities that have been a hit in the past include cooking, board games, acts of kindness, card collecting, memorable sports moments, ukulele, and art. All volunteers will go through a background check and screening process. If you are willing to help or would like more information, please email crawfort@platteco.k12.mo.us as soon as possible.
Thank you for your consideration and please let me know if you have any questions.

Parent Survey
Platte County School District is conducting its parent survey to gather feedback on strengths of the District, as well as areas to consider for growth. Your input is important and will be considered when making future decisions.
Instead of a full parent survey conducted once in the fall of each year, we will be dividing our survey into cycles and asking for your feedback more often.
- For this first cycle, you'll start with up to 20 quick parent survey questions regarding your student's academics, special services, and sense of belonging.
- Then you'll be asked to share feedback (thoughts) on these specific topics (academics, special services, and sense of belonging). The next cycle will focus on other topics.
During Parent/Teacher conferences, we will encourage parents to take this survey. You can complete the survey by clicking on the link below or using the QR code. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

MOCSA information 6th-8th Graders
- In January and February, MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault) will be visiting our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes.
MOCSA's education presenters offer age-appropriate programs for students in elementary, middle, and high schools. They are active in over 30 school districts in the Kansas City metro area, serving both sides of the state line. Their presentations use various teaching methods, including group discussion, lecture, Q&A sessions, and activities to enhance learning and behavior change.
If you prefer your student not to attend this presentation, kindly contact me at 816-436-1443 or email me at Griffina@platteco.k12.mo.us.
Feel free to read more about MOCSA's educational programming or contact youthed@mocsa.org for additional information.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best regards,
Amanda Griffin

Help Us Knock Out Teen Vaping
Teen vaping rates are declining in the Kansas City Northland! We’ve knocked vaping down to just 6%, and it’s all thanks to you! More adults and teens know vaping is harmful to growing brains, and highly addictive, especially for young people under age 25. We’ve got teen vaping on the ropes, so let's knock it out for good.
To help prevent our kids from vaping, we can have conversations about our vape-free expectations early and often. We can warn teens of the risks, set the expectation they remain vape-free, and give them confidence to say “no” to their peers. Remind your kids that they can come to you for help with peer pressure, stress, or anxiety. Parent Up KC is here to help too! Take action to help knock out teen vaping at ParentUpKC.com/Vaping.
