Superintendent Quarterly
October 2023
It's an honor to be your Superintendent!
Over the past six months, I believe that I have met many of you, but most certainly not all. On April 19, 2023 the Hubbard ISD School Board voted Unanimously to name me your superintendent. Becoming a superintendent has been a goal of mine since I was 26 years old. In order to achieve this goal, there has been great sacrifice in earning several degrees, and working my way to the top by holding a variety of other positions. Additionally, it has meant relocation of my family on more than one occasion. I share this with you so that you know how vested I am in what we are doing in Hubbard ISD. This position is a realization of a dream come true, and six months into the job, I feel the same way. Please know that I am available if you ever have a question or concern. My office phone number is 254-576-2564.
Defining Classroom Characteristics
We are off to a fantastic start to the 23-24 school year. There are many great things that can be highlighted, however, I would like to showcase our classroom characteristics. Over the past two decades, I have served as a teacher/coach, admin intern, assistant principal, middle school principal, and high school principal; prior to becoming the Hubbard ISD Superintendent in April of 2023. One thing I am certain about is that in great schools they do not have pockets of excellence. Meaning that regardless of the grade level or content, when you enter a classroom you see and feel consistency throughout the building. Therefore, this summer, I led our fantastic teachers and teacher assistants through a professional development workshop where we identified five characteristics that should be seen or heard in every classroom in the school. Our HISD educators, utilized their personal background knowledge, written articles, database research, and best practices in education. Through the process, the 2023-2024 Hubbard ISD Faculty identified these five elements as essential in every classroom. This document is posted in every room throughout our district. It serves as a constant reminder of what we believe about teaching and learning. Like with anything, a workshop and a sign doesn't change things overnight, but a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and defining what we believe about instruction is a giant first step.
Coffee with the Superintendent
Join me on November 14th at 8am in the foyer of the gymnasium for Coffee with the Superintendent. I will share updates from our legislative session, district accountability, upcoming events, and more!
Secondary Updates
Dual Credit & TSTC
Hubbard High School is excited to offer new dual credit opportunities this year through partnerships with McMurry Dual Credit Academy and TSTC. In addition to the traditional online courses offered by Hill College and McMurry, students may choose to enroll in technical, certification programs through TSTC: automotive tech and medical. Students enrolled in the automotive program are provided a hands-on lab experience on the TSTC campus twice per week.
Carnival
The second annual Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, October 28th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Immediately following the carnival, Hubbard ISD will host a bonfire from 7-8:30. It will honor our seniors of the fall sporting events as well as our Fall sports teams. This is a tradition that we are very excited to bring back to Hubbard ISD each fall! The Carnival committee met several weeks ago and parent volunteers are busy planning class booths and other fun details. If you are interested in volunteering, it is not too late! Please contact Sunny Beseda, Secondary Principal. All of the profits raised during Carnival will be deposited into class accounts to help pay for upcoming events like Prom and Senior Trip.
School Resource Officer
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to add the position of School Resource Officer this fall. Officer Robert Fowler, a veteran in the field of law enforcement, was selected as the Hubbard ISD SRO and is present on both campuses throughout each school day. Officer Fowler’s main role is the protection and safety of our staff and students.
Secondary grade level communication
Huge thank you to our friends at Citizens State Bank!
Our friends at Citizens State Bank donated scoreboards for our football, baseball, and softball fields. This donation is extremely generous, and we are blessed to have such a giving and supportive bank in town. Thank you.
Elementary Updates
New Playground at the ES coming soon!
Huge thank you to our board of trustees for allowing the purchase of an elementary school playground.
We have high academic expectations for our students, but nothing is better after working for several hours than a little bit of recess. This playground will be located inside of the fenced in area near the swings. Arrival expectation of this playground is October-November.
Parent conference night was a success
There is nothing more powerful in the trajectory of a child's education than the school and home working together. On September 13th, we held a parent conference night at the ES, and it was a great success! Because we believe, "that a student's success is enhanced as parents and guardians actively support the educational process," we will hold parent conferences each semester.
Grade level team meetings
Super proud of our ES admin and grade level teachers for coming together each grading period to discuss student performance. It is vital for a successful school to hold each other accountable in assisting students grow. Having these meetings on a routine basis ensures that student performance is on the forefront of our minds.
Technology Department Update
The technology infrastructure, security cameras, and teacher devices have all been updated. We are making huge strides to get HISD technology as current as possible. There are a few more projects we are looking into to complete the whole picture, however, the district technology has changed by leaps and bounds. Thank you to our board members for supporting our envision of a safer, faster, more reliable network.
Business Department Update
One of the major priorities of any Superintendent is to ensure the district is in a healthy financial situation. Through the hard work of our Business Manager, Melissa Porter, we have earned an "A" rating in our FIRST financial report.
