A Message from Marcie
Thanks for a great week, South Park!
We want to remind families that the 1st Semester Report Cards are now available in Skyward Family Access under the Portfolio tab. Our returning families will notice some changes from past years. A committee of teachers and administrators worked together throughout the year to modify the report card, with a goal of making the report card a more meaningful tool for families. Please click here for additional information about grading and reporting in District 109.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in all of the music concerts throughout the week!
See you at Bingo Night this Sunday!
-Marcie
Front Circle Reminders (2nd Posting)
We are doing a much better job, but we continue to remind anyone in grades K-5 who utilizes the front circle for morning drop off to follow the guidelines below:
- Pull your vehicle all the way up toward the front entrance of South Park and let your child get out of your vehicle unassisted.
- All drivers should stay in their cars while students exit their vehicles.
- If your child needs help getting out of the car, please pull all the way up and past the front entrance of our school to help them.
On cold and rainy days, we will let children through the front door of the school so that they don't have to walk too far to their grade level door. We must ask that everyone pull up to keep the traffic flowing!
Read-a-Thon Starts Monday!
Is your student signed up for the Read-a-thon yet? It’s no secret that kids who read more become better readers, but research also demonstrates that children who start reading for fun at an early age are more likely to score better on tests, and to experience better mental health, better sleep, and less screen time. (Forbes, 2023) At South Park, our annual Read-a-thon encourages every student to be the most well-read penguin at school with fun prizes and a little healthy competition. The funds raised from this year’s Read-a-thon will benefit our annual Helping Hands Day project and purchase new library books. The Read-a-thon runs from January 29th-February 9th.
Information on how to create your student’s Read-a-thon account was sent home with students this week, but if you missed it, you can visit this page to join: https://www.forourschool.org/register Once logged in, create a student profile for your child(ren). Use the following "Fundraiser Code" to join our Read-A-Thon: 169200. If you have any questions, please contact South Park’s librarian, Mrs. Jahng, kjahng@dps109.org. Please enjoy this Read-a-thon commercial by the South Park Library Squad.
South Park Winter Book-Tacular!
Our Winter Book-tacular is coming up soon! This family event on February 1st from 5:30-7:00pm, will be the highlight of our Read-a-thon. Come enjoy several different activities for families including crafts, games, winter-themed VR, storytime, and reading to therapy dogs. And don’t forget to grab some hot cocoa and a picture with Parker Penguin! We hope to see everyone there!
Kindergarten Registration Now Open
Registration is now OPEN for our 2024-2025 kindergarten class at Deerfield Public Schools DIstrict 109. Other Important Information ⚠️
- All visitors to South Park School MUST bring a valid driver's license or state ID card to the main office before entering into the building. Beginning this year, we will collect IDs during your visit and return it to you as you leave.
- If your child is going to be absent from school, you need to call or email us by 9:00 that morning. ** Call 847-945-5895, ext. 2103 and leave a message OR ** Email Nurse Nora Moskos.
- Please follow our morning procedures, and drop your children off at their regular grade level doors. If you choose to drive through the front circle at arrival, kindly stay in your car when you drop off to help us reduce morning congestion.
- K-5 drop-off is between 8:35-8:45 a.m. Students who arrive after 8:45 a.m. will need to enter through the front door of the school, as all other doors will be locked.
- Dismissal for all Kindy and 1st-grade walkers and car riders will take place at their grade level door.
- Early Learners drop-off/pick-up info can be found here.
- When parking in our Birchwood parking lot, please remember that our preschoolers are dropped off and picked up by the west end (closest to the school). Sometimes, their parents' cars can block a parked car from exiting for a few minutes. To avoid that, we suggest that you park closer to Birchwood Avenue.
