NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
29 April 2021
Dear Parents and Staff
This week I heard from a friend of mine who has been teaching and working as a missionary in Kolkata, India for the past 35 years. He informed me that he had recently contracted the Covid-19 virus and that he has now recovered. Whilst a bit of a shock, I wasn’t really surprised that he had been infected as the situation in India is dire with hundreds of thousands diagnosed and over three thousand currently dying each day. To put this into some context, the death toll from the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center was 2977. We were all shocked by this incident and yet I get the sense that there doesn’t seem to be the same depth of empathy for the people of India and other places around the world. Could it be that the deaths from the pandemic have become so commonplace that we have become numb to their significance and that the victims have become a number rather than a person. In the midst of the pandemic let us maintain our empathy for those affected and remember that they are people, just like us, who deserve a level of support no less than we are privileged to receive in Australia.
Let us pray
God of all people,
remind me that it is not I alone
who has suffered in the last year.
Our world has been rocked by many crises.
As I learn from where I have been,
as I take stock of how far I have come,
challenge me to also bring others along with me.
Show me a way forward
that walks in the knowledge of our intertwined futures.
Remind me of the kinship of all people every day.
Nourish my soul with your Spirit
and open my eyes to your movement around me.
Amen.

WELCOME
It was remiss of me to not welcome a new member of staff in last week’s newsletter. I am very pleased to announce that Mrs Lara Blacker joins us as an Education Assistant working with the children and staff in the PPP class. I wish Lara much happiness and success at our wonderful school.
MOTHER’S DAY
I’m certainly not one to second guess future Governmental decisions but, as long as the situation remains as it has been throughout this week, I’m leaning towards thinking that restrictions may be eased which will allow us to acknowledge our mums, grandmums and mother figures next Wednesday morning with our special breakfast at 7.30am followed by Mass at 8.45am. Please remember to return the attendance slip to the school by tomorrow to assist us with catering.
YEAR 2P ASSEMBLY
As advised in correspondence sent to families earlier this week, the Year 2P Assembly has been moved to next Friday, 7 May. We hope that restrictions at the time will allow two members from each child’s family to attend.
A Merit Assembly will be held tomorrow morning in place of the Year 2P Assembly.
NAPLAN
In two weeks, the children in Years Three and Five will participate in the NAPLAN Assessments. Whilst these are important assessments, it is important to remember that they are each only one test on one particular day, and they need to be considered in the context of all of the assessments that the teachers are regularly conducting throughout the year.
PARISH
SACRAMENT OF EUCHARIST
On Saturday the Eucharist celebration will be at 6.00pm and on Sunday it will be at 10.00am.
Please log in to PTO via the school website to choose your preferred date. You can do this from now until Monday 3 May at 4.00pm.

YEAR 1 CLASS NEWS
In Religion we have been thinking about how people change. We have all grown from babies and can now do some amazing things. Our bodies have changed, we are learning to deal with our feelings, we can now make friends and play with them and we learn and understand more every day. Take a look at our game of “Guess Who?”
Using playdough we created our own landscape in HaSS. We are going to explore what type of weather occurs in this landscape and where we might find it in the world.
We are excited to have Mrs Flexman visit us on a Tuesday afternoons for Art. So far we have made flowers out of dough and painted them. I wonder what the next step in our carrier project will be!
Have a super term everyone,

VACATION CARE
We had a fantastic time over the Easter school holidays. We had so many fun activities and incursions. We started our holiday off with dancing, singing and doing some excellent artwork.
Our dress up day was a great hit! it was so lovely to see so many children dressed up in their favourite costumes.
During the first week of our holiday program, we had the silent disco company come along and what a great fun day we all had! The children really loved playing the games to musical bob, statues and the number game.
We also had a circus come to town. The children managed to have a go at the Diablo, juggling and plate spinning. It’s was so much fun.
In the second week Laser Corps came to visit us and wow! the children had so much fun, especially when the Educators got out on the field and became targets.
We created our own puppet show and made a puppet stage out of a huge cardboard box. The puppets we made were our crazy sock puppets along with crazy hats too. We ended our holidays with vacation care comfy and cosy in our Pyjamas. Face painting was so much fun. The children loved being able to choose what they would like painted on their arm or face. Some of the designs they came up with were awesome!
OSHC Term 2, Week 1
First week back to before and after school care was great. We started our mornings off with a boogie and danced our shoes off with Go Noodle. We started creating amazing artwork and colouring in pages about ANZAC Day and discussing the meaning of the day. We also have so much fun playing out in the playground, especially now that new sand has arrived.
We love to get out and kick the footy and soccer ball in the afternoons along with hula hooping and skipping.
