2025 WESO - King Science Olympiad Recap
We’re excited to share that our students did exceptionally well at the WESO tournament this past Saturday!
Their success is a reflection of the many hours they dedicated to mastering their events, as well as their commitment to teamwork, curiosity, and sportsmanship. We are incredibly proud of each and every student who participated.
This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of our volunteer coaches, high school mentors, and dedicated parents. We’re deeply grateful for everyone’s time, energy, and encouragement throughout the season.

King Academic Games
Recently, the King 5th grade team competed in the Academic Games National Tournament at Arlington, and did pretty well.
5 students (Austin Chen, Easton Chen, Curtis Fu, Thomas Ross, Andy Tan) were part of the 5th Grade King team that participated in the Academic Games National Tournament at Arlington, Virginia April 25-28th. They competed in a variety of events including Equations (math), On-Sets (set theory), On-Words (a spelling and phonetics word game), Linguishtik (grammar), Presidents (history and Presidential trivia), and Propaganda (recognizing different forms of persuasion). The team achieved outstanding performance by placing 8th out of all the 5th and 6th grade teams in the nation.
Thomas Ross placed 6th individually for the game Presidents. The team placed 9th for the game Presidents.

Morning Arrivals/Afternoon Pick Up - Please Read!
As the weather has gotten colder, we have noticed an increase in children arriving to school via the car drop off/pick up line. In order to keep our students, staff, and community safe, we ask the following:
-Do not block the crosswalks on Waldenwood Drive.
-Do not stop to drop off or pick up students on the west (neighborhood) side of Waldenwood Drive. Please use the drop off/pick up line.
-Use slow speeds when driving, particularly when staff are directing traffic and children are traveling by foot.
Please see the attached map for clarity. We appreciate your collaboration with the King community as we travel to/from school!

AAPS Family Assistance/Reunification Plan
The Ann Arbor Public Schools is well-prepared to provide student and family assistance when a decision is made that students should not be on school property. AAPS has a trained family assistance/reunification team that responds to schools during emergency situations such as power outages, electrical hazards, gas leaks and an emergency incident or active threat.
You can read more about the AAPS Family Reunification Team process as well as watch a video that explains how the district will respond to serve your students and you during emergency situations.

King Elementary Attendance Procedures
- Any changes in your child's attendance - including early departures or vacations - should be sent to their classroom teacher and <kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us>. The attendance is received by office staff. The sooner they know that your child is safe, the better! If possible, please let them know by 9:00am.
- Early departures can only happen before 3:20. After that, it is too close to our official dismissal time to get children to their parents safely. If possible, please let their classroom teacher and <kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us> know by 9:00am (or earlier!).
- Monitor your child closely for illnesses and have them rest at home when they are sick. Office staff cover the nurse's office for 20+ hours a week in addition to other duties. Please find this helpful guide for keeping children home: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lF_GpVuZvLjbLParqW5rmS8pmE9NHYOU/view?usp=sharing
Arrival/Dismissal Plans
Arrival to school will be between 8:38 am and 8:45 am. Students will enter the building at 8:38 am. You may drop your student(s) off no earlier than 8:38 am to line up at the entrance for their grade level. After 8:45 am students will be considered tardy. Tardy students must enter through the front door by ringing the door bell.
Driveline - Parents, please do not exit your vehicle to help your child exit or enter the vehicle. Staff members will support your chid, if needed. Children should have all of their belongings in close proximity as they prepare to exit the vehicle.
Our dismissal process will begin at 3:40 pm. Students will exit through their grade level doors. KingCare students will be dismissed first, followed by bus riders, followed by walker and bicycle riders, finally by students being picked up by car (Driveline).
Before the start of each school day, please make certain that your child knows their dismissal plan for the day. Last minute changes can be confusing to children and disruptive to their day. If changes occur throughout the day, please alert the office and your child's teacher via email before noon. The office can be reached at kingattendance@aaps.k12.mi.us.
Please view the map for the location that your child/children will enter and exit the building here:
