Weekly Update January 19, 2024
Strive Center for Autism
Parent thank you
We just wanted to thank all our parents for staying on top of winter illnesses lately! We have struggled with some bugs and really appreciate all of you for watching for those symptoms and keeping the kids home when they're sick. Our staff are also staying home when they're sick, and we're hoping that this will help keep the spread of illnesses to a minimum.
If you need a reminder on when to keep your child home, see this symptom list:
- Fever exceeding 100 degrees
- Repeated episodes of diarrhea
- Instances of vomiting due to illness
- Contagious skin or eye infection
- Excessive discharge
- Congested cough
- In addition, if a child seems unlikely to benefit from therapy due to their symptoms (for example, they are just too tired), they should stay home.
Upcoming "Free" Day Off
We have a Professional Development day scheduled for Friday, March 1st – this will mean NO THERAPY in both buildings. We also have an opportunity for a few families to take an extra day off on Thursday, February 29th (the day before) to make a long weekend for you. We are providing Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training for our newest staff members at that time, and it requires two days.
If your family is interested in taking February 29th off to have an extra long weekend, please reach out via our Therapy Schedule Update form using the link below. When you complete the question regarding your reason for absence that day, choose “other” and type in “free day off” or similar.
This day will not count against your attendance in anyway.
We have 5 staff members in Brighton who will attend the training, and 2 in Burton, so we have a total of 7 available spots for families. So far, we have 2 families signed up - so be sure and sign up if you're interested.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Snow Time is Fun and Learning Time!
When kids go to school, it is very helpful if they are able to put their snow gear on. We know how much work this can be to teach and that there can be limited opportunities to practice at home, depending on the weather and your family's busy schedule! We love to practice this at the center, and appreciate you providing the outdoor gear needed to do so. And the kids love the chance to get outside in the snow!
Vacations and other time off
We'll just keep this link right here, for your convenience. For any absences scheduled in advance, please use this form to report the dates. You may take an entire day or half day, depending on your needs.
Here are some upcoming dates that the centers will be closed:
Monday, February 19th - BRIGHTON ONLY CLOSED for Professional Development Day
Thursday, February 29th - OPTIONAL day off for families who request it (To request the day off, use the link for the form above, and indicate "free day off" under the reason)
Friday, March 1st - BOTH CENTERS CLOSED for Professional Development Day
Friday, March 29th - BOTH CENTERS CLOSED FOR Good Friday
If your family is planning a longer absence around one of those dates, or at another time, please let us know as soon as you are able!
