At last night's board meeting, the District 196 School Board approved changing December 23rd to a non-student contact day, extending winter break from December 23 to January 2. Thursday, December 23rd is now a non-student contact day.

Please support the Boys Hockey team with purchase from Jersey Mike’s in Apple Valley. 50% of all sales will go back to fund the hockey program. Wednesday evening, December 22nd, from 4-8pm.

The greater Eastview community of parents, family members, and neighbors are invited to donate blood as part of the NHS-sponsored drive on Friday, January 21 from 7:30AM to 1:30PM in Eastview’s South Gym. The EVHS Spanish Department is looking for an EVHS family to host a girl from Spain for the 2022-23 school year. The student has advanced English skills and so no knowledge of the Spanish language is necessary. She is excited to learn about life in the U.S. and share her culture with our community! Eastview Performing Arts Department is proud to announce the winter musical, Urinetown!

Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

In an effort to streamline the process for reporting a student absence at Eastview, families may now complete and submit a single online form.

Beginning November 19, our new District 196 Online Absence Notification System will allow families to report an illness or other absence, sign a student out, and alert staff of a late arrival. Once submitted, the system will directly notify your school.

The form is also located on our Eastview website; under Families>Attendance Information, and under Contact, as well as on ALL district websites.

For ESPAÑOL and SOOMAALI language pages, which can be accessed in the top black utility bar of all websites, the form is available on the Attendance and Contact pages.

Please be aware that this new system will replace the steps previously taken to report an absence. During this transition, you may continue to send notes to our attendance office. However, we ask that you begin using the new absence notification system as soon as possible.

The deadline for senior portrait submission for the yearbook is Saturday, January 1, 2022.

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

The application deadline is Sunday, January 23th, 2022.

The Eastview Community Foundation awards scholarships to graduating seniors of Eastview High School (as well to students who live within the Eastview boundaries completing high school elsewhere -such as the School of Environmental studies and home schooled students). All seniors have also received these updates in their social studies classes this week. Be sure to watch the videos below from EVHS 2020 Alum sending their encouragement and advice through the process.

How to Apply: The Eastview Community Foundation Scholarship application process is completed online. The application and more information can be found for Seniors on Schoology → Class of 2022 Group → Resources → ‘EV Community Foundation Scholarships’ folder. More details and the full scholarship descriptions can also be found in on the scholarship page of (www.evcf.org).

If you cannot complete it in one sitting, you may come back and finish if you have fully filled out the first page. You will be able to go back and edit your application, but you will need to reenter the same information you originally entered on the first page. Application review will not happen until after Jan. 23rd. Your application must include at least one essay or personal statement in order to be complete. Please see the documents below for more details about the EVCF scholarships available as well as the application process.

Seniors are strongly encouraged to apply for as many scholarships for which they are eligible.

Dakota County Library

Dakota County Library now has access to free online FAFSA help, via the library’s Help Now service. Users just need a library card to access it—sign up for a library card online.

Every Meal has launched our Winter Meal Program, providing children and families with easier ways to get the food they need. Over 100 locations throughout the Twin Cities now have our meal bags available for free with no qualification requirements. Locations include local libraries, YMCAs, fire stations, faith communities, schools, businesses, and recreation centers. These locations will be distributing meals starting November 19th, 2021 through January 3rd, 2022.

We hope these locations provide additional opportunities for your families to access Every Meal weekend food bags. Check out the winter meal program map to find locations.

These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

VARSITY SPORTS

The EV Alpine Skiing team had their first race of the season Tuesday, December 14th against 8 other south metro high schools at Buck Hill.

The Girls Varsity team took 5th place with 10th grader Megan Young taking 3rd place in individual rankings. Twelfth graders Katelyn McClure and Ellen Heunisch and 11th grader Elsa Youngberg also had great races.

The Varsity Boys team also took 5th place with 8th grader Owen Schultz finishing in the top 20. Tenth grader Zach Kier and 11th grader Noah Rolling also had strong races and were high scorers for the team.

Their next race will be Tuesday, January 4th at 4pm at Buck Hill.

The Apple Valley-Eastview gymnastics team has kicked off their season with two strong meets! After a hard fight at the Prior Lake invitation on December 4th, both JV and Varsity teams placed last with scores of 113.15 and 124.65 respectively. Apple Valley junior Molly Thammavongsa placed 3rd in the JV all around competition. The team fell to Lakeville North on Tuesday, with Varsity scoring 125.4 and JV scoring 113.05. Personal bests were shown by Abby McDevitt, Paige Peterson, Ella Rudashevksy, Ahjaya Buckner, Gabby Miller, Paige Varela, Paige Peterson, Molly Thammavongsa, Kyla Bessermin, Jocelyn Pittman, and Khloe Baxter. The team takes on Farmington at home on Tuesday, December 21st. Come support the AVEV gymnastics team!

12/14: The Eastview Boys Hockey team had a big 4-1 win at Prior Lake on Tuesday night. The win brings Eastview’s record on the season to 5-1. While the Lightning had a couple good scoring chances in the first period, the period ended scoreless. Twelve seconds into the second period, sophomore Jordan Brothers scored his first goal of the season on a nice play where Brothers won a battle for the puck behind the Lakers net and quickly moved in front of the net and tucked the puck in. Gabe Tritschler and John Kisch had assists on the goal.

Five minutes into the 2nd period, Logan Opgrand scored on a two-man advantage powerplay with a hard shot from the point off a pass from Kisch from Zach Wooten. A little more than a minute later, Wooten scored on a great tip off a pass from Kisch and Opgrand. Eastview scored their fourth goal of the second period on a power play goal by Jordan Larkee, assisted by Kisch. The period ended with a 4-0 lead for the Lightning.- Prior Lake scored one goal in the 3rd period and it ended 4-1.

Jay Svaren had another strong game at goalie stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced. Eastview’s D crew of Sam Gillis, Nick Karam, Ben Keefer, Opgrand, Tritschler, and Graham Ellingson did a great job of keeping Prior Lake from getting pucks to prime scoring positions and swept away any potential rebounds before the Laker forwards could capitalize. The Lightning moved up a few spots in the latest “Let’s Play Hockey” Rankings to #17 and will face off against #2 Lakeville South Saturday at Apple Valley Sports Arena.

Congratulations to the varsity wrestling team for improving their record to 4-0 and defeating Lakeville South 51-16. Earning falls were Spencer Lee, Pierce Lewis, Brady Kelley, and Cole Frost. Also earning wins were Aiden Enderlein, Nolan Enderlein, Ethan Dupont, Damien Mogere, Alex Baccoli, and Peyton Bishop.

12/11- Eastview High School Girls Varsity Hockey beat Farmington High School 2-1

Eastview escaped the unfriendly confines of Schmitz-Maki arena with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Farmington scored the only goal in the first and outshot the Lightning 10-4.

At 8:41 of the second, sophomore Ellie Groebner pushed the puck into the Tigers’ zone and fed senior captain Avery Chesek who was flying to the goal. A sweet move and shot later, Chesek tied the game and the teams were knotted at 1 going to the third. Shots on goal were 12-16.

At 2:47 of the third, senior captain Nora Stepan made an end to end rush with the pick and ripped a low shot at the Tigers’ net. The goalie made the save but gave up a big rebound to sophomore Brynn Dihel who buried the puck to the back of the net for her first varsity goal and the game winner. Strong Lightning goaltending from senior assistant captain Angie Lombardi and team defense kept Farmington off the board for the rest of the game. The final was 2-1 and the shots on goal were 18-29.

The win moved the Lightning to 4-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the SSC. Next up, a trip to Prior Lake to face the Lakers. Game time is 7:00 on Thursday, December 16. Let’s Go!! Go Lightning!! #OurTime

12/9- Eastview High School Girls Varsity Hockey beat Eagan High School 4-2

Conference and section rival Eagan visited AVSA last Thursday and left with a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Lightning. Senior captain Nora Stepan started the scoring at 7:57 of the first. Stepan jumped on a loose puck just inside the Eagan blue line and blasted a slap shot by the Wildcat net minder. A few minutes later, Stepan struck again. This time, she drove to the Wildcat net and, using an Eagan defender as a screen, snuck the puck across the goal line. Eagan cut the deficit to 2-1 before the end of the period. The shots after one were 12-6.

Eagan tied the score at 2:05 of the second, but the Lightning put the game away with 2 goals of its own in the middle stanza. At 6:35, Sophomore Erin Hayward and senior captain Avery Chesek worked the puck to junior Jessica Wilhelm in the slot and Wilhelm ripped the puck past the Wildcat goalie. At 10:12, senior assistant captain Dani Farrington launched a rocket from the blue line that sophomore Hailie Holman tipped by the goalie to make the score 4-2. After 2, the shots on goal were 23-15.

There were no goals in the third. Senior assistant captain Angie Lombardi turned away 13 Wildcat shots and the Lightning skated away with the win. The final shot totals were 34-28.

JV SPORTS

12/14 – Eastview Boys JV Hockey Unable to Circumnavigate the Lakers of Prior Lake

The Eastview JV Boys Hockey Team faced off against the Lakers of Prior Lake at the Dakota Ice Center on Tuesday evening. The Lakers dominated the first period outshooting Eastview 13 to 5, and scoring an even strength goal at 8:56 of the first period on a rebound in front of Eastview goalie Kaden Goff #1. Goff made a great pad save on the initial shot, but the rebound went right on the stick of the Laker forward who put the Lakers up 1-0. The period ended with the Lakers up 1-0, as Eastview’s Goff #1 kept the Lightning in the game.

The play in the second period was more even with Eastview outshooting the Lakers 7-4. However, the Lakers went up 2-0 at the 1:14 mark of the 2nd period, scoring a power play goal. The Lakers went up 3-0 at 11:36 of the 2nd period scoring another power play goal with Eastview defenseman Cole Huetten in the penalty box for cross checking. The period ended with total shots on goal of 17 to 12 in favor of the Lakers.

Eastview came out storming in the 3rd period, scoring an even strength goal at 2:56. Caleb Nelson #20 scored on a pretty one-timer, the lone assist by Mike Cherevatsky with a nice pass to the front of the net from the corner. Eastview cut the lead to 2-3 with their second goal of the period at 4:43, when Louis Rogers #28 sniped the Laker goalie from just inside the end line, unassisted. Despite their best effort to tie the game, the lightning were unable to get the equalizer, and the game ended 3-2 in favor if the Lakers. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 13-9 for the Lakers, with the final shots on goal of 30-21 also in favor of the Lakers. Kaden Goff #1 was strong in goal for Eastview, stopping 27 shots, but suffered the loss. The Lightning are now 4-3-2 on the season. The JV Boys will next try to tame the Cougars of Lakeville South at the Apple Valley Sports Arena on Saturday December 18th @ noon.

12/11- Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Hockey beat Farmington High School 1-0

The EV Lightning girls JV hockey team played Farmington this past Saturday at Schmitz -Maki arena. The lightning came out on top with a 1-0 OT victory.
It was a low scoring game with no goals for either team in the 1st - 3rd periods. The Lightning played well & had a significant amount of offensive zone time & many good scoring chances. Credit goes to the Tiger goalie, who played very well.

#3 E. Schaefer scored the game winner mid- way through the OT period with the assist going to #22 S. Cords.

#33 Lila Hanson played a great game again net for the lightning getting her second shut out in a row! The lightning finished the game with 25 SOG. Farmington had 10. The win left the JV lightning with 5-3-1 record.

The lightning are back in action Dec 16 at Dakotah arena as they take on Prior Lake . Game time is 5:00 p.m. GO ⚡️⚡️

12/9- Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Hockey beat Eagan High School 2-0

The lightning came out on top with a 2-0 victory.
Eastview opened the scoring at 7:12 of the 1st. #35 E. Warren scored the goal with the assist going to E. Schaefer. That was the only goal of the 1st period.
There was no scoring in the 2nd period.

#22 S. cords scored at 6:35 of the 3rd period with the assist going to #23 C. Johnson.

Lila Hanson played a great game in net for the lightning getting the shut out. The lightning finished the game with 20 SOG. Eagan had 27. The win left the JV lightning with a 4-3-1 record.

NINTH GRADE SPORTS

Apple Valley/Rosemount Duals 12-14-21

The EV Ninth Grade Grapplers kicked their dual meet season off by competing against both Apple Valley and Rosemount on December 14. Pierce Lewis, Kye Brouchet, Logan Ostler, Dominic Petti and Eli Zillhardt paced the 9th graders with their pins and Jack Bauer won a convincing 10-0 major decision while Ryder Repke provided the excitement of the dual with a 6-5 win against Apple Valley to help the team win a satisfying 43-21 victory. Eight-grader Spencer Lee, Levi Ruyle and Landon Odegard each earned a pin fall against their Rosemount opponent while 8th grader Robert Gerisch, Jack Bauer, Aiden Enderlein and Dominic Petti all earned hard-fought victories but Rosemount prevailed 42-30. Congratulations to the ninth grade Team for a great first double dual meet! The Ninth Grader’s next dual competition is Tuesday, January 4 at Hastings starting at 4:30.

The Intramural Basketball Meeting for 9th and 10th grade team selection is rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 20th after school in C350.
