In an effort to assist school districts in implementing safety initiatives more effectively, Region 3 will provide relevant school safety guidance, resources, training opportunities, professional development, technical assistance and TEA updates.

A school district or open-enrollment charter school located all or in part of an area declared a disaster area by the Governor under Texas Government Code, Chapter 418, and that incurs disaster remediation costs because of the February 2021 Winter Storm event may apply to the Commissioner for disaster aid assistance during the two-year period following the date of the Governor’s initial proclamation or executive order declaring a state of disaster.

TEA will be extending 2019-2021 School Safety and Security Grant period to 05/31/2022.

This grant provides funding to public schools for additional safety and security equipment (campus hardening).

The proposed new subchapter would have implemented Senate Bill 11, 86th Texas Legislature, 2019, by establishing rules for the safe and supportive school program (SSSP) and trauma-informed care. In seeking to better align the SSSP and trauma-informed care policy and training rules with other agency strategic priorities, Texas Education Agency has withdrawn the proposed version of the rules and will repropose them at a future date.

This Internet Safety Train-the-Trainer Program is specifically designed to teach school resource officers, law enforcement personnel, volunteer trainers, and educators how to deliver comprehensive Internet Safety Programs to children and parents.

The Advanced School Behavioral Threat Assessment Training leads participants through multiple tabletop exercises on different fact patterns, providing participants the opportunity to handle threat cases from start to finish, iron out their roles and responsibilities, and hone their procedures and decision-making, all with continuous trainer feedback.

Region 3 ESC will be hosting a virtual 2 day summit that will showcase sessions related to school safety and the safe and supportive schools program (SSSP from SB11). Topics will include updates on SB11 and SSSP, school mental health initiatives, suicide prevention and intervention, digital technology concerns, bullying prevention, maintaining safe schools, cyber-safety, human trafficking, and much more!
