Welcome to Chapel's Faith & Family!
God Calls Samuel
What do you want to do when you grow up?
Samuel knew from the time he was a little boy what he would do when he grew up, because he grew up doing it! From a very young age, Samuel lived in the tabernacle (the Israelite church) and helped the priest Eli. God was training Samuel to become a prophet, a man chosen by God to speak to the people on behalf of God and to serve God's people. One night when Samuel was sleeping, he heard a voice calling to him. Who would be calling Samuel in the middle of the night? Samuel was about to find out.
Opening Prayer
Lord, thank You for all the ways that You have given us to work and serve. Open our eyes to opportunities to serve You and others. In Your name we pray. Amen.

Talk about it
- How did God call Samuel?
- How does God speak to us today?
- Who has God called to serve Him and others?
- How can you serve God?
God called Samuel in a very direct way--He called Samuel's name out loud! God wanted Samuel to be His prophet--a person who shared God's Word with the people.
God speaks to us today through His Word. We hear God's Word in worship and Sunday School, and when we read the Bible together. We speak to God through prayer.
God has called all Christians to serve Him and others by loving and caring for one another and by sharing the Good News about Jesus with others. God calls some people to work in the church as pastors, worship leaders, DCEs, deaconesses, and other ministry leaders.
