January 2024
Message From the Principal
Dear Lakeridge Families,
I hope you all enjoyed winter break and are off to a great start to the new year! Students have worked hard this semester and I know our students’ families have also been there to encourage, support and motivate our Hawks every step of the way. On behalf of the Lakeridge staff, we want to thank each of you for your partnership in doing whatever is necessary to support our students.
At the end of January, your child will receive his/her semester grade which will reflect 20 weeks of Hawk PRIDE: Preparation, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence. Although we are coming right up to crunch time, a little extra dose of “Determination” on retaking assessments or turning in missing projects can result in big academic gains on the final grade for a class. Please do everything possible to encourage your child to check their online grades and take advantage of test retakes.
Thank you for partnering with all our staff to make LMS an emotionally safe, socially civil and academically productive school for students every day. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Here is some important information for you to know ahead of time so you and your child are successful and prepared for school events and happenings for the new year.
Toby Udager
Principal

STEAM Family Night at LMS
Thursday, Jan. 24 @ 5:30 pm
Mark your calendars! All families are invited to attend our STEAM Night on Thursday, January 24th from 5:30 to 7:00pm in the Lakeridge Commons. Students will be showcasing a special engineering project for each grade level. Art projects will also be on display.
A free pizza dinner will be provided for all who attend!
In addition to our student projects, families will participate in hands-on STEM booths, manned by student scientists, your students' teachers and Lakeridge family members. We will also be highlighting our Math program with a special emphasis on our Math Intervention classes. This is an opportunity for parents to see student work, play math games and learn some tips about how to help your child with their math homework!
We look forward to you joining us for this fun-filled family night! Stay tuned for more details to come.

Hawk Mode
At LMS we strive every day to maintain a “Where Everybody Belongs” school experience and also create classroom learning environments where students are actively engaged in learning important content and positively interacting with their peers. Over the last couple years, cell phones and other personal electronic devices have become more of a challenge to both these school goals
This year we have repeatedly shared with students our “Hawk Mode” expectations. Students have been doing an excellent job following these guidelines, which has had a significant positive impact on the learning environment, especially in classrooms. Hawk Mode means we expect students to be active learners who have their phones/airpods/earbuds off and out of sight during the school day. These off and out of sight expectations include classrooms, hallways, the office, and it is especially important in areas where privacy is expected such as restrooms and locker rooms.
The only times students are to use their cell phones and other personal electronics is before the first bell of the school day, during lunch, or after school. Having cell phones put away during the school day reduces distractions for students while increasing student participation and face-to-face social interactions with their peers.
Parents/guardians, if you need to get an urgent message to your child during a time other than lunch, please call our main office at 253-891-5100. Thanks again for your support in ensuring all our students have an emotional safe, socially civil and academically productive learning environment.
