Principal's Message 9.24.21
Dear Lake Grove Families,
What a treat to see so many smiling faces for picture day yesterday! If you missed it, make ups will be on November 5th.
I want to take time again to thank each of you for partnering with us to keep our students safe and our schools open. I know that as individual families we may have different values and customs and I appreciate that all of us are coming together to follow the various safety protocols we have in place to keep schools open. We know that many of the protocols are inconvenient, yet they are how we keep schools open for 5 full days of joyful learning.
Thank you for wearing a mask on campus.
Thank you for staying home if you are sick.
Thank you for quarantining or isolating according to our guidelines when needed.
And mostly thank you for sharing your children with us.
Be well,
Principal Knapp
Start With Hello Week September 27-October 1
Participating in "Start With Hello" Week activities will foster an inclusive community that values every individual at Lake Grove. We will make a difference in simple, fun, and impactful ways by promoting connectedness, and identifying and helping students who may be lacking social confidence or feeling alone.
Monday, September 27: “It’s Easy Being Green” Day and “Say Hello” Day
The Lake Grove community is encouraged to wear GREEN to promote "growing" friendships. Lake Grove will come together to show that it is okay to “be green” and even though we are all different, we will treat each other with kindness and compassion.
Tuesday, September 28: “Tie Dye Tuesday”
Wear your favorite tie dyed clothes and show support for peaceful and kind friendships that include everyone.
Wednesday, September 29: “Team Lake Grove” Day
Everyone wants to be a part of a team! Wear your favorite team’s colors or jersey.
Thursday, September 30: “Mix it Up and Sock it to Loneliness” Day
Wear mismatched and mixed up clothes, including fun, silly and colorful socks.
Friday, October 1: “We are Lake Grove!” Day
Show your Lake Grove pride! Wear Lake Grove colors (red/blue) or wear your Lake Grove spirit gear!
Managing School Issued Devices
Some parents have asked about ways to manage what and when students can access on their devices. The amazing Russ Irwin has been teaching all our students about Digital Citizenship, and we'd like to partner with you to ensure we're teaching students to use technology responsibly.
I would encourage all of you to make agreements as a family about where and when devices are allowed to be used, and recommend that students do not have devices, including cell phones, in their rooms after bedtime. Common Sense Media has some helpful articles and guides for parents navigating screen time decisions. I've linked one here.

I-Ready Assessments
This Fall, all students in Grades 1-8 will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. i-Ready is a program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform and tailor instruction to accelerate growth. This is the first of three i-Ready assessments we give each year, and results will be shared with parents in October (at conferences).
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s skill level. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
At Lake Grove, the Fall i-Ready testing window will be between September 7 and September 24.

Attendance Reminders
Dismissal Reminders

SEEKING VOLUNTEER TO LEAD MATH CLUB AND CULTURE TRAVEL
Do you have a passion for math games, logic puzzles and Lake Grove students? Then we need your help!
