Transition to Blended Model Update
from D41 Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski
Dear District 41 Community,
Thank you to all families and staff for hanging in there with us as we work through a collaborative process to bring students back to the buildings and to continue the remote learning model. It is very important to us that as we prepare for the shift that we do it in a way that provides a high quality experience for both models. This district magazine provides the current information that we have confirmed to date. Continue to look for communications from your school principals about school specific plans.
There is a lot happening across the district to plan for this transition. Much of the planning is behind the scenes. I want to share with you what the process looks like for us. For example, district-wide planning process includes:
Identifying students who will transition to blended/stay in remote
Working through the staffing for every building for in-person and remote learning
Finalizing the staff accommodation process
Building schedules and classroom assignments for both in-person and remote
Working through the covid notification process (what happens when we have a positive covid case)
Creating a self-certification process (daily requirement for all students and staff)
Transportation planning
Adjustments to the physical building to allow for social distancing
Planning new arrival and dismissal procedures per school
Technology upgrades
Increasing our language translation support options
Of course we had our original Reopening Plan in place but as we have said before, information and guidance changes frequently and we must be responsive to those changes. In many ways we are going to experience a second first day of school for students and staff. Some changes your family/students my experience include:
Teacher changes and new class assignments in both remote and in-person model will be communicated after the Human Resources Department processes all requests and makes determinations. Once staff are informed as to the status of the determination, building principals can finalize staffing plans in their schools. Our goal is for the HR process to be complete by Friday, October 2nd.
AM/PM assignments and bus route information for Grades K-2 will be communicated no later than Friday, October 9.
Remote students may be mixed across school communities (students from different schools will be assigned together in the same remote class). This will be driven by the number of requests for remote at each grade level.
The DCHD publicly posts metric updates on Mondays. In the event that the county moves to Red/Substantial Risk, D41 will notify our families of our plan of action and timeline. We will do our best to give our families advance notice so that they can plan for the shift to full remote.
Again, please refer to this communication for what we know to date. We will also be sharing an updated Reopening Plan with all details in early October. We are still in the process of confirming many of the details to make this transition as smooth and safe as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
