Principal's Message

Thank you for such a wonderful week of staff appreciation this past week! Students and families brightened our days with their love and kindness! I want to express my gratitude for our wonderful PTO for planning such a fun week of Travel Themed Treats, they were enjoyed by all!

As you know next week is a very important week as well! Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be completing the SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessment) in ELA (English Language Arts) next week and the week following they will be completing the same assessment in math. This weekend, please talk with your child about taking their time and doing their very best on the test. Please make sure your child comes to school on time and well rested and encourage them to eat a nutritious breakfast-don’t forget we offer free breakfast to all of our Thunder Eagles that may want it. We look forward to a successful testing season and appreciate your support!

Around The World in 5 days

PTO did such a great job celebrating staff this week with a travel themed week of treats! They made passports and boarding passes for each of the staff to get "stamps" each day. The first day "flight attendants" went to each classroom with in flight refreshments for staff.

First stop

The first stop was in France with a French Flower Market and Charcuterie for staff. Everyone got to make their own bouquet and pick their favorite flowers!

Thank you PTO!

We cannot believe the attention to detail that PTO had in planning for all our "stops" as we had tea in England, lunch in Mexico, and face masks in Korea...it's a shame, but our trip around the world has to come to an end today, but staff will enjoy their treats going into the weekend and come back refreshed on Monday.

Kindergarten Registration is now open!

Do you know a child who will be five years old on or before August 31? Maybe it's your neighbor, friend or even your own child. Now’s the right time to enroll next year’s kindergarten students. The sooner you enroll, the better we can keep you informed and get prepared for your child to join us. Get information on what documents you need and how to enroll -- the process is all online at sumnersd.org/register.


To help welcome new kinders and their families, each of our elementary schools created virtual tours, which includes a school tour and staff introduction. Watch each schools' video here.

Keep Your Child Home When:

  • There has a close contact with anyone confirmed to have, or suspected to have COVID-19
  • The Student has tested positive for, or is waiting on a test for COVID-19
  • The student has been told to self isolate or quarantine by public health or a medical professional
  • Any of these symptoms are present:

    • Fever of 100.4 or higher

    • Cough- frequent and persistent

    • Loss of taste or smell

    • Shortness of breath

    • Fatigue

    • Headache

    • Muscle or body aches

    • Sore throat

    • Congestion or runny nose

    • Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting
