Principal's Corner
Dear W.C. Petty Families,
Our school is alive with the spirit of learning and community, and I'm thrilled to share some exciting news with you!
**Exploring Discoveries**: Our 4th graders are gearing up for an educational adventure as they embark on a field trip to Discovery World on Friday, November 3rd. It promises to be a day filled with hands-on exploration and fascinating discoveries.
**Boo Bash Success**: A huge shoutout to our amazing Boosters for hosting the spooktacular Boo Bash! It was a hauntingly good time, and the support from our school community truly made it a great success.
**Kids Night Out**: Mark your calendars for Boosters' first Kids Night Out on Friday, Nov. 3. It's a fantastic opportunity for our students to enjoy a night of fun and games while giving parents the opportunity to spend some alone time.
**Fire Drill Heroics**: I want to commend our incredible students for their outstanding performance during our second fire drill. Despite some classrooms having to adapt to different locations, they handled the drill with great responsibility. Safety is our top priority, and their actions speak volumes.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school community. Your support enhances the learning for every student at W.C. Petty Elementary.
Sincerely,
Joanna Gerritsen
Principal, W.C. Petty Elementary
Costume Parade & Fall Parties
- If the weather allows, parents are invited to view our outdoor costume parade. The parade begins at 2:00 pm.
- If you have been invited to help with your child's classroom party, please remember to bring a state ID so we can check you in properly.
Please be advised of the following costume guidelines (students will only be in their costumes for a very short amount of time):
- Costumes must be school appropriate
- Please be mindful that we have little kids here - please don't send too scary of costumes
- No weapon-like accessories are permitted
- Please refrain from costume masks that cover the entire face.
If your child wishes to bring in a "treat" for their classmates, please abide by the following guidelines:
- Treats must not be candy items.
- There must be enough of the item to make sure that everyone in their class is able to receive the item.
- Any treats should be on the approved snack list for this school year.
Thank you!

Information from the Technology Office
iPad Information
Student iPads have a district-approved case installed that cannot be removed due to the warranty on the iPads.
Each student was given an Apple cord and Apple charging brick. These now belong to the student/family. If these break, there are two options for families.
Purchase one from D34 ($19 for the cord and $19 for the brick).
Purchase a cord and brick from an outside vendor.
These cords and bricks belong to the student and will not need to be returned at the end of the year. If there is an issue and an item is not working, please contact your building administrator to get a different one as soon as possible.
Stickers and/or labels should not be placed on the iPad.
Please help with the expectation of having students charge their iPad every evening. It is very important that the student has a charged iPad so that class instruction time isn’t lost accomplishing this task.
The technology department has seen an increase in water damage to iPads. The cause of this seems to be water bottles in backpacks spilling. Please help your student to be careful with any water around the devices.
iOS Update
Apple has released the new operating system, iOS 17, which the Technology Department will be pushing out to all devices soon. If you notice a student’s iPad is asking to be updated, please push the button to allow it. It may ask to be updated at night, which is fine as long as the iPad is connected to the internet. This update should help with certain program issues that we are seeing in the district.
The district will send the command to force the update, but students/staff may interrupt the download. If this happens, the students/staff should manually install the update.
To install update go to: Settings → General → Software Update
