Summer Updates
Just a reminder that the Reading Summer Challenge is due by August 3rd for all Early College students. August 28 all traditional students will need to turn in their Summer Reading Challenge.The forms must be turned into your child's classroom teacher. Over the next week all students should receive a book from Granville County Public Schools and this book can be added to your reading challenge list. We will be announcing winners at our upcoming board meeting.

Open House
The time is 4:00-7:00 pm.
This is an exciting time where your child will get to meet his/her teacher for the year.

Pre-K Information
PreK will stagger and not start on the first day.
Teachers will contact those accepted into the program for a parent meeting.

IMMUNIZATIONS & KINDERGARTEN HEALTH ASSESSMENT
IMMUNIZATIONS
Parent/guardian must provide verification of the child's immunizations. North Carolina state law requires the following minimum doses:
Kindergarten:
5 DPT doses (5th dose MUSTbe on or after the 4th birthday)
4 Polio doses (4th dose to be given on or after child’s fourth birthday)
3-4 HIB doses (at least 1 Hib on/after 1st birthday and before 5 years of age -Not required after age 5)
2 MMR doses -1st dose on/after 1st birthday and 2nd dose before enrolling in school for the first time
3 Hepatitis B doses (Series of 3 doses required for all children born on or after July 1, 1994)
2 Varicella doses (Vaccination is required unless documentation of disease history is provided by a healthcare provider)
4 Pneumococcal conjugate doses (Not required after age 5)
7th Grade or Age 12:
Tdap Booster
1 Meningococcal (1st dose)
12th Grade or Age 17:
1 Meningococcal (2nd dose)
Be sure your child's name/birthdate, doctor's stamp or signature, the month, day, and year of each immunization is on the record.
HEALTH ASSESSMENT
A kindergarten health assessment shall be presented to the principal of the school your child is enrolled in within 30 calendar days of the first day of attendance. The health assessment must be completed within one year (365 days) prior to the first day of attendance.
Medical and/or religious exemptions from North Carolina immunization law must meet requirements of the law and be on file at the child’s school. To avoid having your child excluded from school please remember to submit the Kindergarten Health Assessment and/or updated immunization records by the 30th day of school. Health assessment and updated immunizations shall be conducted by a health care provider and/or the local health department. CELL PHONE POLICY
The district has a new cell phone policy. Please read the information below to be up to date on the new cell phone policies in the school.
High Schools: Students may not use cell phones during the instructional day, except during their assigned lunch period, and between classes. The instructional day is defined as the time from the first bell to begin school and the last bell to dismiss school. ** NEW** Middle Schools: Students may not use cell phones during the instructional day. The instructional day is defined as the time from the first bell to begin school and the last bell to dismiss school. Elementary Schools: Students may not use cell phones during the instructional day. The instructional day is defined as the time from the first bell to begin school and the last bell to dismiss school.

SUMMER RECIPE
Quick Summer Recipe - Mug Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 package gluten-free pizza dough or gluten-free English muffins or bagels
- 3/4 cup shredded cheese blend
- 1/4 cup pizza sauce
- pepperoni, sausage, peppers, tomatoes, or toppings of choice
Instructions
Prep the crust. Flatten the pizza crust. Select a microwave safe wide bottomed coffee mug, ramekin, or small bowl and flip upside down on the corner of the pizza crust. Trace around the outside of the mug with a knife.
Make the pizza. Place the pizza crust or English muffin into the bottom of the mug. Place pizza sauce on top of raw dough. Sprinkle with cheese and toppings.
Cook. Microwave for 1 minute.
