Elkhorn Tiger Families!
Greetings Families,
Happy Fall! September certainly flew by. I want to thank all of you that came out to our Curriculum Night! It was a successful evening for all. Our next family event will be Monster Math night followed by Trunk or Treat on Oct. 17th at 5:00-6:30.
We have wrapped up our Star reading and math assessments and will use the results to plan instruction and interventions. Our reading resource Wit and Wisdom is proving to be a rigorous and engaging resource. Literacy proficiency for all students is critically important. Continue to read with students at home and be sure to ask them what they are learning and reading at school.
I want to congratulate our Students of the Month for September-
K-Caitlyn Dannar, Madilynn Flathers
1-Brielle Wells, Kaytyn Holsey
2-Mackenzie Davis, Samuel Boudreaux
3-Jax Woods, Megan James
4- Alivia Richardson, Harper Price
5-Jasper Thornsberry
These students showed great respect and were recognized by their teachers. They will be given tshirts and have breakfast with the principal. Our October character word is Empathy.
I also want to reiterate the importance of attendance. When your child is not at school they are missing valuable learning opportunities. This may cause students to fall behind and become frustrated. Please partner with us and make sure your child is present each and every day, every minute matters. Thank you!
As we look ahead, we are excited about the many opportunities that this school year will bring. Our dedicated and passionate teachers and staff are eager to inspire and guide your children on their educational journey. At Elkhorn, we believe in nurturing not only academic excellence but also the social and emotional well-being of our students.
In the coming months, you can expect a range of enriching experiences, engaging activities, and meaningful opportunities for involvement. From parent-teacher conferences to special events and school-wide initiatives, there will be ample chances for you to connect with our school community and play an active role in your child's education.
Please keep an eye out for our newsletters, which will keep you informed about important dates, school updates, and educational resources. We also encourage you to stay connected with us through our school's website, Facebook and SeeSaw.
We believe that when families and schools work together, we can achieve extraordinary results for our students. Together, we will continue to build a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you'd like to share, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your input and collaboration in making Elkhorn the best place for your child's education.

Student Survey
As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next couple weeks, we will be asking for your 3rd-5th grade child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to complete, and provides an opportunity for students to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on their self efficacy, grit, resilience and emotional regulation. We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs.
If you do not want your student to participate. Please email or call Dr. Harris. Thank you!
SPIRIT WEEK!
Elkhorn Elementary Fall Book Fair
Help us raise readers! Elkhorn Elementary will be hosting its annual book fair October 23rd - 26th. The Book Fair will be set up in our library all week. Students will visit with their classrooms to complete a wishlist. Then they will return another day to purchase the books they would like.
If your student would like to purchase a book during school hours, please send money in an envelope marked "book fair money". Be sure to include enough money to pay the tax, which can be found on the bottom of the wish list. If you have created an E-Wallet for your child please let their teacher know. The Book Fair will be open from 1:30 until 6:00 pm on October 26th during conferences as well. This would be a great time for family members to stop by. Need another option? Feel free to shop on-line at the link below.

PBIS-Positive Behavior Interventions and Support and Student of the Month information
At Elkhorn we Go Safely, Show Respect, and Show Responsibility! This month our character word is empathy. Students will learn and define empathy. They will participate in lessons and classroom discussions that help them understand ways to show and model empathy. We will choose a student of the month from each class that exemplifies the character word of the month.
We will hold our first PBIS Student of the Month assembly on 10/20. This is just for students to attend. We will celebrate their good behavior choices and how well they are meeting expectations.
Below is our behavior matrix. Here is our school pledge that we recite together each morning:
Elkhorn Pledge
Elkhorn Tigers are the best.
