I hope you’re all reading this from the comfort of your home. It sounds like we could be in for quite the winter storm/weather this weekend. There are a lot of fun snow day ideas out there on the internet as well as many variations of snow day bingo cards you could tailor to your family. Snuggling up with a good book is always a great idea! Stay safe and warm, and we will see everyone next week!
Unit Notes
Unit A
We are getting ready to take our winter iReady assessment. If you are interested in some review items or activities for your scholar, please reach out to your child’s homeroom or math teacher. Look for a letter coming from us later next week that highlights specific things you can do at home to help support your child’s success on our iReady assessment.
Unit B
Unit B has a party coordinator. If you would like to volunteer for the Valentine’s Day party, please email Ms. McCoy at hmccoy@cpsk12.org. Math homework will come home on Friday. It is mandatory for third graders and encouraged for second graders.

Spelling Bee
Ridgeway students are invited to participate in the School Spelling Bee. Please use the link below to register your child/children. The event will take place on Thursday, February 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the media center. Parents are invited to attend. The deadline to register is Tuesday, February 6. This is a firm deadline as I need time to prepare materials. If your student is not a member of the Spelling Club and would like a study packet, please indicate that on the registration form. If you prefer, you may send me, Maria Cox, an email or a note with the following information: student name, homeroom/unit/age, parent name, parent email and phone number, home address, and need a study packet. Please send to mcox@cpsk12.org. I am looking forward to a great competition!

Specialist News
Happy New year from the music room! 2024 is off to a very musical start. We began the year with some centers activities and are excited to welcome our first of two student teachers from Mizzou- Ms. Tinsley!
Unit C will begin the new year with lots of new concepts and even instruments! We are very excited to begin our Ukulele unit. This will be sprinkled into lessons for the remainder of the year. Before winter break Unit C learned the solfége notes: Mi, re, and Do. Adding this to their previous knowledge of Sol we are getting closer and closer to finalizing the pentatonic scale (a five note scale including: do, re, mi, sol and la.) Rhythmically, Unit C has begun preparation for learning some simple meters, and will begin preparing sixteenth notes.
Unit B will begin the year with a lot of new vocabulary: Ta, titi and rest are soon to be added to our list. We are also preparing sol and mi for melodic concepts. Unit B continues to be joyous, exuberant music makers and it is a highlight of my day to see them take leadership over our songs, dances and games!
Unit A is doing a splendid job this school year and continues to surpass my expectations. Their singing voices are developing wonderfully and it is a true joy to explore their voices in class. We will continue refining our previously learned comparatives (loud vs. soft, fast vs. slow) as well as our 4 voices, tuneful singing, feeling of steady beat (heartbeat), while adding our High/Low comparative. High/Low is one of the more challenging comparatives in music as it is often confused with loud and soft, however our Unit A musicians have already shown great understanding of what elements can affect the pitch of sound and I am eager to see how they formulate their understanding of pitch.
I look forward to our spring semester in music and as always, thank you so much for supporting your students musical endeavors!
Sing-cerely,
Ms. Meeds
