Better Together - Decoding Words

BETTER TOGETHER VIDEO SERIES CONTINUES

We announced in our October newsletter that we have launched a new educational resource video series to assist our families with their child’s learning. In our “Better Together” series, we share tips, strategies and resources on how families can work with their children outside of the classroom. These videos are published on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as well as on our “Cheatham County School District” YouTube channel and district website. CTE SHOWCASE RETURNS NEXT WEEK

Our eighth-grade students at Harpeth Middle School, Cheatham Middle School and Sycamore Middle School will participate in a CTE (Career & Technical Education) Showcase next week. During the showcase, the eighth-grade students will travel to their respective high school, where they will learn about the CTE programs of study and meet the CTE teachers. The dates of the showcase are Nov. 16 for HMS students, Nov. 17 for CMS students and Nov. 18 for SMS students. The middle schools have provided additional information to their students about the details of the day.

CCCHS TO STAGE 'ROMEO AND JULIET'

Cheatham County Central High School will stage the Shakespeare classic, “Romeo and Juliet,” Nov. 18-20 at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets are $5 and can only be purchased through GoFan. The link can be found by clicking here. We encourage you to support the CCCHS theatre program.

DISTRICT REPRESENTED IN USA SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Harpeth High School students Calli Copeland and Haley Romines (pictured) have been chosen to represent Team Tennessee at the USA Special Olympic 2022 games in Orlando as Tennessee youth leaders. Additionally, Seth Hendrix, a student at Harpeth High School, will represent the team in powerlifting, and Sycamore High School student Alexis Stewart and Kingston Springs Elementary School staff member Tasha Kosinski will represent the team in unified bowling. The games will be held June 5-12. Congrats to everyone as they represent Special Olympics Area 29!

FIRST STEAM EVENT A HUGE SUCCESS

Our first district STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) event was held Oct. 23 as more than 40 students in grades K-8 attended a Rocket Camp at Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy. It was a morning filled with great learning and lots of fun. Chris Cooper, our CTE/STEAM coordinator, is planning the district’s next STEAM event – a Derby Day – on Saturday, Jan. 22. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks so please be on the lookout.

RED RIBBON WEEK CELEBRATED

Our schools celebrated National Red Ribbon Week Oct. 25-29. The week promotes the importance of living drug, tobacco and alcohol free lives. Students took part in a variety of school activities and special-themed days encouraging them to be drug free. Thanks to the support of the Cheatham County Community Enhancement Coalition, our School Resource Officers were able to hand out a variety of materials, such as water bottles, bracelets, pencils and shirts, to our students.

SCHOOLS SERVING THANKSGIVING LUNCH

Our students will enjoy a Thanksgiving lunch next week. The menu may vary by school, but will include turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread dressing and a roll. The lunch will be served Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Pegram Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School, West Cheatham Elementary School and Cheatham County Central High School. The lunch will be served on Thursday, Nov. 18 at Kingston Springs Elementary School, Harpeth Middle School, Pleasant View Elementary School, East Cheatham Elementary School, Sycamore High School, Sycamore Middle School, Harpeth High School, Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy and Cheatham Middle School. We are still following COVID protocols this year and families will not be able to eat this holiday meal with their child(ren). Please remember that all breakfast and lunch meals are free to all students this year.

THANKSGIVING CLOSURE

As a reminder, the Cheatham County School District will be closed Nov. 24-26 for Thanksgiving. The Board of Education office will also be closed these days. Classes will resume Monday, Nov. 29. We hope all of our families and students have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.

TNACHIEVES MENTORS NEEDED

Cheatham County needs 30 additional community members to volunteer as tnAchieves mentors. Support Tennessee Promise students by giving back one hour per month. Tennessee Promise provides Tennessee high school graduates the opportunity to attend a community or technical college free of tuition and mandatory fees. tnAchieves has designed the mentor role so that even the busiest executive, parent or young professional can make a meaningful impact. If you do not have experience working in education, do not worry! All mentors receive an online training, handbook and support from the tnAchieves staff. The deadline to apply is Dec. 3. EARLY DISMISSAL DAY IS DEC. 3

Our second early dismissal day of the 2021-2022 school year is Friday, Dec. 3. Schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. Lunch will be served for students on this day. Teachers will participate in professional development in the afternoon.

DAYCARE WORKERS NEEDED

We are hiring daycare employees for our before and after school daycare program at our elementary schools. We need full-time site assistants and part-time workers.
