A Message from GQES Administration:
Week 18: 12/4/23-12/8/23
Chameleons RISE: Raising Intentionality Strengthening Expectations for students, teachers, administration, and families.
Dear GQES Families,
What an interesting week last week! It was definitely blustery several days. Winter is just around the corner!
Thank you for sending your child to us every day, on time, and ready to learn! Here is some information to share on multiple recesses:
- Holding recess outside invites self-directed play where children choose what to do, from playing make-believe games, to reading or daydreaming, to socializing and engaging in physically active games; the experience is up to the child. Certainly, these activities can also occur in an indoor setting, but the opportunity for exploration is limited. Interestingly, a large controlled study in China found that outdoor recess may help prevent or minimize nearsightedness in children.

Please see Ways to help your child be successful Every child needs to learn the 109 heart words (to spell, write, and read these words) in addition to learning math facts too. Stay in touch with your child's teacher to know what your child is learning and how you can support them at home, please.
Know we value your help as a partner in your child's education. We are very grateful to have parents ask for us to send work home so they can help their child gain skills and/or increase their knowledge. We will be having a tutoring program/process to help students in grades 3 and 4 to start soon. Stay tuned!!!
Also, let's talk about weather. Make sure your child is dressed for the winter season (coats, gloves, hats, boots, etc.). Please see the photograph of unclaimed clothing (coats, jackets, hats, etc.) Just call our main office at 540-662-3575 to retrieve these items. We will work with you to find assistance, if possible if you need help with winter clothing.
In addition, when the school district cancels school for weather, we will communicate our expected learning plan for students. Right now, grades K-2 will receive a paper packet of work to do if we are home and there is no school. Grades 3-4 may also have a packet of work and/or Chromebooks may be sent home. Always, stay in contact with your child's teacher. Each teacher will communicate the school's learning plan for the day if schools are closed due to inclement weather.
Last.....
- Always, always support your child's positive behavior BE KIND by encouraging your child to show our expectations at GQES:
- smiling faces,
- listening ears,
- helping hands,
- respecting boundaries
- trying our best on all learning tasks.
More information:
- Please update your child's emergency contacts, addresses, custody and/or phone numbers as changes may arise.
If you have questions or concerns, always feel free to contact us at 540-662-3575. We are glad to see your child at school on time and ready to learn every day! Thank you for partnering with us to help your child thrive!
