Better Together
Families,
We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed time with friends and family. It's hard to believe that we only have 2 1/2 weeks before school is out for Winter Break. Make sure to check out the Upcoming Events for all the fun December happenings.
I appreciate those that let me know that the School Culture Survey link was not working. We believe the problem has been corrected and would appreciate you completing it this week. We are hoping to plan a celebration of cultures for near the end of the school year. This would be during the school day. To help with planning, we would appreciate family members filling out this School Culture Survey, so that the event is representative of the student body and their families.
We want to remind you that walkers need picked up at the sidewalk by the front drive. It is very helpful to teachers if you walk up to get your child as they walk down the sidewalk. It's difficult to make sure all students are with their guardian if they run to you. No students will be allowed to walk across the drive or off the premises without a guardian unless previous arrangements have been made in the office for older students, and no student will be allowed to walk to a parked car. We appreciate your help making sure all of our students return home safely.
Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff
5th Grade 3D Candy Canes
5th graders learned a blending technique using oil pastels to create these beautiful, three-dimensional candy canes.
State Physical Education Convention
Mr. Brock Evans, Wiggin Street and Pleasant Street Elementary Gym Teacher, attended the State Physical Education Convention this week. He had the pleasure of meeting Jim Tressel, former football coach for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Mr. Evans also will be bringing back some new ideas for our gym classes and has learned new cross curricular lessons for Math and Spelling. We appreciate his love for physical education and always striving to keep things fresh for our students!
First Grade Worry Stones
In Art we read the book A Little Spot of Anxiety: A Story about Calming Your Worries and discussed how we all have worries, fears and anxieties at times. Students shared some of their own worries, fears and anxieties and then created a worry stone. These can be kept in their classrooms or taken home and used as a calming technique. We also learned many other calming techniques that we can use such as: drawing, listening or playing music, dancing, taking deep breaths (smelling a flower...blowing a bubble..,) hugging our favorite stuffed animal and many more!
Thanksgiving STEM
First and Second grade students enjoyed STEM activities before break including Turkey Hideout, Turkey Escape, Thanksgiving Table, and Disguise a Turkey!
Grades 3-5 Winter Program; December 12th
Holiday Shop and FOW
The Holiday Shop is set for Friday, Dec 15th! Parents can join their kids for shopping from 8:30-9:00am, and students will be shopping with their class in groups from 9:00-11:50. All students will be bringing home an envelope on December 11th, with a list attached for students to indicate who they will be shopping for. Keep in mind when sending money for shopping, the max price of an individual item at the Holiday Shop is $5. The envelope can be returned to school with cash prior to the 15th. This is a CASH only event.
Any students that will not be shopping will still have the opportunity to make an ornament. These are provided by Friends of Wiggin Street. These will come home immediately in a gift bag and name label. Happy Shopping!
Next FOW meeting is Dec. 5th @ 5:00 pm in the school library.
Kindergarten Charlie Brown Trees
Kindergartners painted their own Charlie Brown Christmas Trees. These will make wonderful decorations and keepsakes with their little handprints!

Run, run, as fast as you can to see our Kindergarten classes perform "The Tale of the Gingerbread Man" play! Students should arrive at 6:00 pm on Dec. 18th to get their costumes. Parents are welcome at that time to proceed to the gym with the performance beginning at 6:15 pm.
