February 2023 Gifted Month Recognition
In recognition of Gifted Education Month, Morgan County Board of Education invited a few of our gifted students to speak about their educational opportunities and experiences. It was an honor to provide insight on what Morgan County Schools is doing for our gifted and talented students. Several high school students presented their unique talents.

AP Classes & Career Mentoring
In response to elementary student surveys, MCMS students addressed their concerns by creating 3 anti-bullying lessons for K-1st grade students, 2nd-3rd grade students, and 4th -5th grade students. Middle school gifted students enjoyed being a role model to the elementary students and visiting their old elementary schools.
Minds-On, Hands-On Learning
ASTRA-CON @ Morehead State University
Thanks to Center for STEM+eXcellence, MCHS AP students enjoyed a day at ASTA-CON. The day was filled with many learning exhibits and guest speakers. The highlight of the day was interacting with Bill Nelson, NASA Administrator. He was an inspiration to our students.
The Appalachian Center for the Arts
9th grade GT students attended The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) performance at The Appalachian Center for the Arts in Pikeville, KY. They enjoyed having lunch in the park afterwards.
Mountain Arts Center
Shelby Cole, senior at MCHS, performed during The Nutcracker for her final time as a member of the Dance Etc. Team. MCHS gifted and talented students attended this performance supporting Shelby and all of the Morgan County students dancing.

Gifted Hearts: Inspiring Acts of Service in Our Community
MCMS GT & Kiwani's Builders Club Spreading Love and Warmth
MCMS gifted students join West Liberty Kiwani's Builders Club. The Builders Club experience prepares young people to become the most skilled and engaged members of their communities-now and in the future.
Builders Club Pledge:
"I pledge on my honor to uphold the Objects of Builders Club. To better my school, my community, my world and myself. To aid those in need while enhancing leadership capabilities and to encourage the fellowship of all."
MCHS Trunk or Treat
MCHS Gifted and Talented students participated in the student council for the annual Trick or Trunk. Many GT students joined the fun with a variety of clubs and sports teams. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to be involved with the community and provide a safe and fun night for trick-or-treaters.
Kentucky Blood Center Visits MCHS
To end World Kindness Week students gave blood. The KY Blood Center gave a shout out to our students for being so respectful during the blood drive!
