A Message from GQES Administration!
Chameleons RISE: Raising Intentionality Strengthening Expectations for students, teachers, administration, and families.
Dear GQES Families,
We hope you enjoyed the wintry snow mix today! Be safe and careful in these inclement weather days! Thank you for helping us by sending your child to school ready to learn, on time, and at school every day!!!!
As you know, we must respond and react when there is inclement weather. For Tuesday, 1/16/24, we know WPS has called a 2 hour delay with the possibility of a change, if after checking roads, WPS will announce any changes by 7:30 am on 1/16/24. Stay tuned and aware of the notices, please. More importantly, stay safe in these weather conditions.
Shout out to our teachers who are working on our after school tutoring/remediation time for students in grades 3 and 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays: Ms. O'Barto, Ms. Cornejo, Ms. Kresge, Ms. Navarro, Mr. Smith, Ms. Cootware, Ms. Sperry, Ms. Crabill, Ms. Smith, Ms. Faliskie, Mr. Kilby, and Ms. Lehman. We are so grateful to have our GQES teachers helping our GQES students for the All In VA tutoring plan as well as transportation from WPS for our students, after school.
We are proud of our students returning to school and relearning the routines and expectations for them. We have a Golden Spoon Award for those classes who behave best in the cafeteria by cleaning their areas, being kind, and listening to our cafeteria supervisors daily. We have AWESOME awards given out related to going above and beyond. Recently, GQES has implemented video announcements so we can share all the good things happening in our school in a brief time for announcements. It is a work in progress and yielding some fine compliments!
Report cards went home last week. If you have questions about your child's progress, please contact your child's teacher to arrange a conference. We want to make sure all of our parents know where their children are performing in comparison to peers as well as norms established for their grade levels by the state of Virginia.
Here are some upcoming events in the month of January 2024 at GQES:
1. All grade 3 and 4 students will take the state-mandated Winter Growth Assessment tests in English/Language Arts and Math.
2. All English Language Learners (K-4) will take the state-mandated WIDA tests.
3. Please update your child's emergency contacts, addresses, custody and/or phone numbers.
If you have questions or concerns, always feel free to contact us at 540-662-3575. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child thrive!
Sincerely,
Joanie Hovatter
