New Wing on the North end of GMSE
Time is getting VERY close to our occupancy of the new wing here at East. I am hoping that in the next week or so, some of your child's classes will start to take place in BRAND NEW classrooms! The kids and the teachers are very excited and every child will have a chance to have class in one of the new rooms at some point during their day. Please ask your child what they think! Stay tuned for information about a community open house so everyone can see their tax dollars at work in our beautiful, functional new addition.
New Front Door Procedures NOW in Place at the Main Entryway at GMSE
The door from the vestibule to the main office will now be locked. When you come up to the building, please press the button outside the glass doors. The secretaries will buzz you into the vestibule where you will be asked to check in at the pass through window. The secretaries will help direct you from there. If you are dropping something off for your child, there is a shelf and post-it notes where you can leave the labeled item(s). We will help your child pick it up from there.
This change will limit the number of people that we give access to the building and to the students in the name of safety. I know change is sometimes difficult, but I hope you can all appreciate this step as we continue to work to keep Gahanna students safe and confident while at school. Please let me know if you have any questions.

6th Grade Update
ACE 6/7: Students tested over ratios today, 12/11, and we will begin unit 7. Students are introduced to algebra tiles and use their knowledge of variables to write & simplify various algebraic expressions.
ACE 7/8: We will have a test over transformations on Friday, December 15.
MATH 6: Students tested over Chapter 4 material on 12/5. We are in Chapter 5 now and are working on multiplying fractions, converting mixed numbers and improper fractions, and scale factor. We will test over part one of Chapter 5 on Tuesday, December 19th. Study guides will go home this week!
ACE ELA: Students are beginning to write their informational magazine articles in class. The writing will be complete before winter break and students will be assessed on their writing as the writing process unfolds. Additionally, students will be finishing up their narrative nonfiction book club books before break. Students have done well exploring informational topics over the past month and while this will continue for a bit after break, fiction work will also blend back in as students analyze and make comparisons between topics that are presented in both fiction and nonfiction formats.
ELA: Leading up to winter break students are researching information about a topic of their choice including women of power, effects of social media, and many more! As they explore their sources, they are recording important information to use for their informational article. We are in our last week of nonfiction book clubs, so students should finish up those books by Friday December 15th. On that same day, we will have a quick check/quiz on their vocabulary list #1.
Science: Heading into the end of the semester we are finishing up our specific studies of Matter. Our notebooks are gaining mass and volume! It is important that every child has a pair of headphones daily.
Social Studies: As the second quarter comes to an end, the students are wrapping up the study of Economics and Financial literacy. At the start of the new year, we will begin the study of Ancient Civilizations in the Eastern Hemisphere. Please make sure your student has headphones or earbuds for class. We are in need of glue sticks & tissues if you would like to donate. Thank you for your support and enjoy the holidays with family and friends!
