Indian Education Update

The 2023-2024 school year has been very active. Title VI and Johnson O'Malley programs continue to grow for the school district. Fifty-four tribes are represented in grades PK to 12th grade. Services include educational, college/career and cultural components. You may click on our program link at the bottom for additional information.

Parents are to be reminded to check your emails from our Indian Education program and staff. Important information and deadlines have been sent for your information.

Cholakocee Werito is our new Elementary Teacher for the program. Cholakocee (Cho) is a member of both the Mvskoke Nation and Navajo. She has a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Science with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. She recently received her Masters Degree in Social Foundations of Education. Both degrees are from Oklahoma State University. She brings Indian Education knowledge and classroom experience. She was recently chosen and recognized as the 2023 National Indian Education Association Classroom Teacher of the Year on October 18, 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Welcome Cho to the Edmond Indian Education team!

The after school cultural activity will include basketry and pottery for secondary students. There will be a limited number of slots available. The scheduled dates are November 7, 14, and 28th.
