Celebration of Learning Feedback
Thank you to families who reached out with questions or feedback regarding Celebration of Learning:
- The last name entrance into Celebration of Learning (last name A-K 1:40pm-2:10pm and last name L-Z 2:10pm-2:40pm) will remain the same for the rest of this school year. This will help avoid confusion.
- We will flip the assigned last name entrance next school year.
- Families with three (3) or more children are welcome to arrive at 1:40pm and remain for the full hour of the event.

5th Grade Families - Middle School Tours Begin
You may be looking ahead already to the transition to middle school for your students. I have a Middle School Transition Information document that I hope will be a helpful jumping off point for you. In this document, I have outlined some of the basic School Choice Information as well as links to our zone’s middle school websites. The links direct you to the prospective families page that has tour dates and enrollment info to each middle school in our zone. Take a look at this information and if you have any questions, contact Michelle Hauck, School Counselor at michelle_hauck@dpsk12.net.
Reminder About Excused Absences
The following are considered excused absences: temporary or extended illness, injury, or physical, mental, or emotional disability with a doctor’s note, family emergencies, death in the immediate family, religious observances, absences pursuant to school release permits under District policy JHD, and absences which occur when a student is in custody of a court or law enforcement authority. Documentation (a doctor’s note) is required for illnesses of more than 2 days.
- If your child has an unexcused absence for a vacation, etc. teachers are not expected to provide work in advance for your child.
- Please click on our Attendance page or Family Handbook for more information.
How Do I Know How My Child is Doing in School?
We communicate with families in several ways so you know how your child is doing in school:
- Students bring home weekly graded assignments in the Friday Folder.
- Family Conferences are offered twice a year.
- Process and learning is shared through Bloomz.
- Families can reach out to the teacher for an update or meeting.
- Report cards are available three times a year at the end of each trimester.
Trimester 1 Progress (Report) Cards
- The end of the first trimester is 11/17
- Families can expect access to the report card by 11/20
- Our grading scale (1-4) is standards based and the same as the grading assignments that are sent home in the Friday Folder.
- Click on the Grading Scales for Families for the DPS definition of proficiency levels (the 1-4 scale).
