Monday Message
From the desk of Dr. Harrell
November 9, 2020
As you read this you will have most likely have been notified of several things that the district has dealt with today. Anthon Elementary for the next four days will teach from a completely virtual format, students will return to in-person learning on November 16th. Dalton elementary had a student test positive for COVID-19 and now there is some quarantining that must take place on that campus. In addition, there was a press conference at the Uvalde County Courthouse sharing that as of today masks will be required in our community. And unfortunately, the worst thing that can happen is we were notified that one of our UHS sophomore students was killed in a car wreck yesterday afternoon, God Bless his family.
I share these things not to upset or discourage anyone but for us all to be mindful as we move forward. As Anthon's parents and guardians were being notified today almost all were grateful for the notice. Many stated that their child’s teacher had contacted them and they were very ‘Thankful’ for their child’s teacher and the work each of you is doing. I still believe our campuses are one of the safest environments our students encounter and we are an anchor for many. It is your work and dedication that makes our campuses safe-havens for so many.
I do want to share that our district continues to move forward with the vision of creating a Dual Language Academy. We spoke to many teachers and administrators last week who work directly with the Dual Language program and all were very positive about having an academy and the strength, engagement, and focus of having the program on one campus will provide. We still have more staff members and parents to talk to, to gain more insight, thoughts, and feedback.
Again, I must say that I am proud of each one of you for the work you do. It is not easy, it is very involved and difficult however our students are blessed to have you and I Know each Student Believes in ‘U’.
I Believe in ‘U’!
