Whether you are a recent grad or a seasoned professional, your volunteer work (including SWE) can boost your experience and fill any gaps you may have for your performance review or resume. As a young engineer, Angel McMullen-Gunn had big aspirations at a small rural Nebraska manufacturing site. Twenty years later, she enjoys working with global teams as an Associate Director of Quality Engineering. Join her for the inspiring story of how she has been advancing her career, leveraging her SWE leadership and community volunteering efforts to lead to successful teams. Learn how to be strategic in your volunteering choices, effectively integrate them to influence your career, and how to best showcase your volunteer experience on your resume and define your career path ahead!

Angel McMullen-Gunn
She is also an adjunct technical communications lecturer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She teaches JGEN200 Technical Communications, an introduction to written and oral communication, and document design principles applied in the sciences and technology.
Angel has received numerous industry awards, including being named as the top 0.2% of all Collins engineers, as a Collins Aerospace Engineer of the Year Award Finalist (2020); the Society of Women Engineers Global Leadership (2020), and Emerging Leader (2018) Awards; a Manufacturing Institute Science, Technology, Engineering and Production (STEP) Ahead Award (2018) winner; one of Plant Engineering Magazine’s Engineering Leaders Under 40 (2017), and one of UNL’s 2017 Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment.
Her educational background includes a BS in Mechanical Engineering and MEng Engineering Management, both from the University of Nebraska, and an MS Quality Systems Management with Six Sigma Black Belt Certification from the National Graduate School of Quality Management of Falmouth, Massachusetts. She and her husband live outside of Lincoln with their two children and enjoy traveling and camping together.
