Week of October 16, 2023
A Note From Dr. Overstreet...
Homecoming Week: We made it through a week filled with fun, celebrations, games, karaoke, a pep rally and powder puff game, Friday Night Football, and the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. Congratulations to all who helped to make the week a huge success.
A Big Irish Shout Out To: Jamari Hood and Tahara Diallo, Dublin High School 2023 Homecoming King and Queen. Congratulations to both of you and the entire Homecoming Court for representing Dublin High School!
"THE PRODUCTION PHASES OF A HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE PROGRAM!" Trust me, you don’t want to miss this play. I thoroughly enjoyed Opening Night on last Saturday night. It was comical and so much fun to watch. More importantly for me, I got to see a group of very talented students who are passionate about acting. "The Production Phases of a High School Theatre Program" is a must see play. Join us on Thursday, October 19th! The show begins at 7:00 PM and tickets can be purchased for just $5.
CLASS OF 2023 SETS NEW GRADUATION RATE RECORD
After seeing record-high rates last year, Dublin City Schools’ Class of 2023 continued to report strong on-time graduation rates, according to data released today from the Georgia Department of Education. In fact, the Class of 2023’s overall four-year graduation rate was Dublin City’s highest ever at 97.7%! At 93.3% for Moore Street School and 98.2% for Dublin High School, both high schools’ graduation rates were well above the state average of 84.4%.
With its impressive rate, Dublin City Schools joins the top 22% of school districts statewide that also posted a graduation rate of 95% and above. And, the district earned the highest graduation rate amongst all school districts within the Heart of Georgia Regional Educational Service Area (HGRESA). “These results reflect the hard work of all our students, staff, families and business partners,” said Dublin City Schools’ Superintendent, Dr. Fred Williams. “As a whole, our district and community have a lot to be proud of.” This is the fourth year in a row that Dublin City Schools has posted a 90+ point graduation rate. The district has also improved its four-year graduation rate by more than 24 points, up from 73.6% to 97.7%, over the past 10 years.
Support for Dublin High School Sister/City Exchange Trip to Japan: Dublin High School is now planning to support six of our students with their travel expenses to Japan after being selected to represent DHS and Dublin City Schools in a once in a life time trip. We are grateful to the Japan/Osaka Sister City Exchange Committee for selecting six DHS students to the delegation of nine students from across Dublin/Laurens County high schools.
To contribute to this event, donations are being accepted by writing a check to: Dublin High School Exchange Japan/Osaka Sister City Exchange, 1127 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, GA 31021. Congratulations to the six Dublin High School students who were selected by the Exchange Committee to travel to Japan in April of 2024 to study and experience the Japan culture. We are thrilled at this opportunity and extremely proud of the following students for representing Dublin High School: Derick McRae, Paris White, Emma McDaniel, Derricka Lewis, Elle Walker, and Kate Kolbie.
21st Century After School Program: The 21st Century Afterschool Program is available to all students. The 21st Century Program is an after-school program for students who are in need of extra help or tutoring for core academic subjects they are currently enrolled in this semester. Students can also recover credits for courses they may have previously failed in order to get back on track for graduation. The afternoon program is Monday - Thursday from 2:30 until 5:30. Bus transportation along with an afterschool meal are provided. For More information, please contact Ms. Madison, the school's Graduation Coach at 478-353-8040.
