The Open Letter Project
Dear Brahmas,
Our IB students are working with our Arts and Activities programs to produce a special school event, a live reading of Martin Luther King’s Open Letter from Birmingham Jail on March 4.
- This letter is not only an historical document, presenting the perspectives and experiences of Black Americans during the 1960s; the letter also provides a road map to a more peaceful society that holds itself accountable to justice and the promise that "All Men Are Created Equal."
Special thanks to Ms. Dena Lordi and our IB students for organizing such a powerful activity for our entire campus!

Growing Collaboration!
Last week, we experienced a special collaboration between our Staff Grub Club, Coordinated by Maureen Baiz, and Special Education Transition Program taught by Tanya Aparicio!
Our staff “Grub Club Lunch & Learn” partnered with Tanya Aparicio & her transitional class to create planters for succulents and herbs. Our students prepared glass bottles and taught teachers how to recycle the bottles into planters. The planters were then sold to staff as a fundraiser for future projects!

AP Environment Science News Flash!
As part of an AP Environmental Science assignment, a group of Mr. Valor’s students plan to plant milkweed plants around the school campus to help our environment. The idea is that by planting these milkweed plants around the school campus it will promote biodiversity by providing monarch butterflies a place to live and grow. This will overall help because these butterflies are pollinators, natural pest controllers, and part of the food chain/web. This will also provide a prettier outlook of our campus. The group received approval to plant milkweed plants in the courtyard, by the art rooms, amphitheater, 300 building, and 600 building on our school campus.
As for funding it, they are planning on doing a fundraiser with Panda Express once it gets approved. The project is scheduled to be completed by March 4, 2022.
The group named Monarch-Key consists of 4 sub-groups: Marketing, Research, Art & Advertisement, and Public Relations. Group President is Olivia James. Group managers: Amanda Holley (Marketing), Maya Mehta (Research), Jodie Baek (Art & Advertisement), and Charlie Lin (Public Relations). Marketing: Kylie Lam, Michelle Wang, Jesica Lin, Jonathan Phung, Jolene Wu, and Harrison Choe. Art and Advertisement: Julie Lee, Mya Wilson, Jowelle Wong, Nathan Thai, Phoebe Ng, Charleen Chen, and Verina Ko. Research: Wiley Guan, Allan Lyu, Jeffrey Xiao, Lyndon Kaneko, and Bryan Chiu. Public Relations: Richard Li, Cal Pacis, Jason Situ, Enya Cheng, Viona Huang, Mary Dawud, Isabella Nava and Steve Zhang.
