Amistad:
Hello Talley Tigers!
Amistad is Talley's current number-one point earner with 2,149 points! During Talley's annual Reading Rally, Amistad earned 2nd place in the fundraiser, raising close to 3,000 dollars! On November 2nd, at Legacy Park, 500 S. Columbia Drive, we will be hosting an Amistad picnic. We encourage all of our Amistad families to attend and get to know our Ami families more. Don't forget to bring snacks, chairs, and outdoor games. The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. We can't wait to see you all there!
Nukumori:
The House of Nukumori has been shining especially brightly this month! We were thrilled to win the award for most participation in the Talley Reading Rally. We are also proud to share that we have received the Tiger Pride banner twice this month for our excellent behavior at Talley Rally! Coming up soon, we will be participating in World Kindness Day, and we will also be taking part in a schoolwide service project focused on creating Dignity Boxes. Nukumori House will be collecting hand sanitizer and cleansing wipes. Stay tuned for more information!
Rêveur:
Rêveur hosted the Talley Rally last week and debuted a new cheer written by Jamir Colquitt and Tramontae Fannin. Our students did a great job of leading the school in a very successful rally. This month, our House leader, Connie Bhasin, got to go see the originator of the House system in person at the Ron Clark Academy for the Leadership Conference. She was able to bring back so much information for our House Council and we can't wait to see all of the amazing things they are planning. In our House meeting, we played a fun game of rock, paper, scissors with a twist! Whoever lost the match became the cheering squad for the other student as they searched for someone else to challenge. At the end, we had two competitors, but even better we had cheering squads for both. It was a blast! More information will be forthcoming about our community service project soon.
Altruismo:
Hello Altruismo families!
This week, our top point earners are Vivienne Sacks and Maya Malhotra. We have been staying steady at 5th place for a while now. To help us move up in points, please send a picture of your student(s) completing community service. They’ll receive 5 points for this, so please remind your student(s). Our house will also lead its second Talley Rally on Nov. 3rd. We’d love for you to join us!
Isibindi:
The green house has lots of exciting things happening. At the last Talley Rally, Isibindi won for doing the best chicken dance during Minute to Win It. We also spread the love last week by hanging up posters to celebrate National "I Love You Day", on October 14th. Our House Council is hard at work, planning a S'mores Social. Be on the lookout for more details about that! Go Bindi!
Onraka:
The House of Onraka is excited to share a new initiative -- Unity Circle! (Think of it like a "Community Circle", but with the members of our house!) You are invited to join us in the Media Center from 1:35-2:05 PM on the following dates: 11/15, 12/6, 1/24, 2/21, 3/20, 4/24, & 5/15. (Don't forget to bring your ID when you check in!)

Remote Learning Day
In September 2022, the Board of Education approved the 2023-2024 Academic Calendar, which includes a remote Digital Learning Day on November 7, 2023. The purpose of this day is two-fold. The remote Digital LearningDay will enable all staff to participate in civic engagement on Election Day and provide an opportunity to further grow the remote Digital Learning skills of students. Additionally, staff will have dedicated time to participate in training and professional development.
To assist in planning, CSD has linked an FAQ with answers to some frequently asked questions related to the remote Digital Learning Day. Families will receive communications directly from schools about specific digital day learning plans for individual sites.
BHMS Coffee Chat - eCigarettes
On December 18, 2018, in a historic move, the Surgeon General of the United States issued an advisory that declared youth e-cigarette use an “epidemic.” Sadly, the use of e-cigarette has grown exponentially since 2018 and is here in Decatur. Come learn more about how to address this growing epidemic at the next Principal’s Coffee Chat at Beacon Hill Middle School on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 9:30. Decatur Parents Network (DPN) will have a guest speaker with us to help us tackle this epidemic together.
DHS Girls' Basketball Camp
The Lady Bulldogs Basketball Program will be hosting a one day camp as a fundraiser October 28th, from 9am-noon at DHS Gym for the upcoming season. Mead Road Mardi Gras Inspires Sweet Music in Decatur
Don’t store those Halloween costumes after the 31st — Keep them handy for the return of the Mead Road Mardi Gras Parade & Party on February 3, 2024! Students can march with their schools in the parade through Oakhurst to celebrate Mardi Gras and raise funds for the Decatur Education Foundation’s music education grants. More details to come at MeadRdMardiGras.org.
Mead Road Mardi Gras has donated over $35,000 to DEF to fund music and arts grants in the City Schools of Decatur. Over the years, these grants have furnished the Beacon Hill Middle School band with new instruments, infused FAVE with the rhythmic pulse of African drums, and enriched Decatur High School with a new piano, harmonious choral arrangements, and vibrant theatre costumes. In 2023-2024, DEF’s music grants will support a bucket Taiko drum ensemble at Oakhurst Elementary and a diverse collection of music-centric literature for every elementary school in CSD. With your generous contributions, we can make sure that the music never stops for Decatur students! Read more impact stories at DecaturEducationFoundation.org.
