Middle School East
Boyertown Area School District - Home of the Bears
Week In Review and a Look Ahead: Friday, December 1, 2023
Principal's Message
Our combined Middle School East/West Orchestra concert will be held at BASH tonight, Friday, December 1, at 7PM. We welcome all guests to join us for what will be an engaging and enjoyable show! Next Thursday, December 7, will be our choral concert at MSE followed by our band concert on Friday, December 15. Good luck to all of our talented performers!
Families are reminded that we open the doors for our students at 7:15AM. We have noticed an increase in student car riders being dropped off beginning around 7AM and many of these students are without jackets or warm clothes. On excessively cold days, and dependent on available staff, we may be able to allow these students to enter earlier; however, we ask that early arrivers prepare to wait in the cold until 7:15AM.
The Keystone Algebra I exam will be administered to all students currently taking Geometry on December 5 and 6. Informational letters were emailed home previously. Please review the information and reach out to us should you have questions or inadvertently deleted it.
MSE Musical- A Success!
Congratulations to our cast and crew of Seussical Jr, which was performed the weekend before Thanksgiving. Our students gave a phenomenal performance entertaining many guests over the three shows! Thank you to all who gave their time to make this production happen and a special thank you to Ms. Jamie Cullipher for her years of service to our middle school theater arts program.
December Dance "Winter in Hollywood"
Student Council and TSA will be hosting the “Winter in Hollywood” dance on Friday, December 8th. The dance is from 7-9 PM and the cost is $5. There will be a bake sale at the dance (items sold for $0.50 and $1), and pictures will be available for $1 each. All students attending the dance MUST pre-pay for the dance during lunch. Students will not be able to pay at the dance to enter. Students will need their ID when paying and when entering the dance. Students will be able to pay for the dance during lunch on one of the following days:
- Wednesday, December 6th
- Thursday, December 7th
- Friday, December 8th
We will be following a special, more formal, dress code for this dance. Students may not wear jeans, sweatpants, or athletic pants. The dress code options are as follows:
- A collared shirt with dress pants or khakis. Ties are optional. Students may wear either dress shoes or sneakers.
- A dress, dress pants and blouse, or skirt and blouse. Dresses may have spaghetti straps, halter straps, or a single strap. Dresses may not be open-back or have any bare midriff or side cut-outs. All dresses/skirts must be the required length according to the district dress code. Students may wear dress shoes, flats, or sneakers.
Please refer to pages 46, 53, and 54 in the student handbook for attendance at extracurricular events and dance expectations.
All students should be dropped off at the back entrance by the gym. However, students will be dismissed out of all three entrances. When picking up students in multiple grade levels, please pick up at the highest grade level location.
- 8th grade will be picked up in the front loop.
- 7th grade will be picked up on the side tennis court lot.
- 6th grade will be picked up in the back by the gym.
Youth and Government (YAG)
Boyertown delegation numbers are continuing to rebound back to its pre-COVID numbers, with close to 70 delegates representing the Boyertown Y/BASH, Boyertown East and Boyertown West. With Boyertown participation on the rise, more delegates were also seeking statewide leadership positions which was the primary focus of Saturday’s field trip.
Among the candidates include:
- Izabel Sandoval (BASH 11th Grade) – Blue House Committee Chair candidate
- Kailey Reinboth (BASH 10th Grade) – Gold House Committee Chair candidate
- Jaylah Allen-Bates (BASH 10th Grade) – Associate Justice
- Ariella Zeigler (BASH 9th Grade) – Gold Senate Chair candidate
- Anna John (East – 8th Grade) – Gold Senate Chair candidate
- Gillian Ricci (West – 8th Grade) – Gold House Committee Chair candidate
Candidates spent their day on November 11 at Springfield Township High School campaigning through various means: a Candidates’ Fair set up in the gymnasium complete with trifold campaign posters and additionally through multiple hours of delivering short speeches along with Q&A sessions with each of the participating delegations.
Delegates not running for office were able to contribute by listening to speeches, offering meaningful questions directly to candidates and in a townhall-type setting to guide their decision making when casting their votes.
Our Boyertown students were at school on a Saturday with another 200 students from the eastern side of the state , required to dress up, wake up early and miss out on a gorgeous weather day. Yet their enthusiasm throughout the day was apparent as they took the first step in their YAG journey for the year which culminates in Harrisburg in April 2024 at Model Convention. The respect and maturity they showed would make the district and community of Boyertown proud!
We are pleased to announced that three of our candidates were elected into office. They included Jaylah Allen-Bates (BASH – 10th grade) who is also the first ever Boyertown delegate to become an Associate Justice on the PA YAG Supreme Court; Kailey Reinboth (BASH – 10th grade) and Gillian Ricci (West – 8th grade) who were both elected as Gold House Committee Chairs. Congratulations to all three!
Over the next few weeks, students will begin selecting their jobs for this year’s Model Convention, whether it be as a representative or Senator, an attorney, a lobbyist or a member of the press. Model Convention will take place in April of 2024 in the State Capitol.

MSE Book Fair
The East Book Fair will be open December 4 - 8!
It’s book fair time! Your student will have the opportunity to shop at the book fair in school during the week of December 4. Below is a list of the teachers signed up to bring students to the book fair, but students may also visit during study halls. There are many items for your child to purchase including books, posters, pens, pencils, bookmarks, and more! Cash, credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, checks (made out to BMSE Activity Fund), and eWallet will be accepted. Students who pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay will be able to stop at their lockers to get their phones before visiting the fair. Students will be able to donate their unwanted change to buy books that will be donated to the Boyertown Multi Service.
If you are unable to attend the book fair in person, visit our online fair. The online fair will be available from December 1-14. Email our librarian, Mrs. Mento, at kmento@boyertownasd.org if you would like to pick up your books in the office. This is perfect if you plan on giving books later as gifts.
Reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to 1.8 million words a year.
eWallet for Book Fair
Parents can create an account for their student and set a spending limit with eWallet. This is a digital payment that parents can set up starting on November 11. Students can use eWallet any day of the book fair. Visit the book fair homepage to create an account. After the Fair, remaining eWallet funds are not returned to a credit card but instead, become a gift card balance that can be used online with Scholastic or to fund an eWallet for a future Book Fair or donated to buy books for the Multi-Service holiday drive. Be sure to sign in with the same email used to create the eWallet. You need to activate your eWallet account again to retrieve funds for this fair.
All purchases benefit our library. Thank you for supporting our readers!
Turkey Day Food Drive
Mr. Agatone (the big turkey!), Mr. Covington, and Mrs. Bennett don their turkey gear as a thank you for all who donated to Preston's Pantry food drive at Boyertown Area Multi-Service.
