School Site Council & English Learner Advisory Committee Members Needed

MES is in search of parents or guardians who are interested in serving on both the School Site Council (SSC) and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). If you are interested, the commitment is a one hour bi-monthly meeting, and your input is invaluable in the creation and development of our educational programs. If you are interested in adding your name to our election ballot, please contact Denise LaFramboise - dlaframboise@mammothusd.org and let her know. Informationally, SSC meetings are typically held in English with Spanish interpretation available. ELAC meetings are held in Spanish with English interpretation available.

Parking Lot Safety

Please remember to drive slowly in the MES parking lot. If you need to exit your vehicle for any reason, please turn right and park in the visitor parking lot. (The lot on the left is reserved in the mornings for staff only.) If you'll be using our drop off lane, please pull all the way to the top of the loop. We have staff assisting children from cars to the school. Children can only exit the vehicle on the passenger side. There is no parking in this lane. Also, no cell phone use in the driveway. Thank you for helping with the flow of traffic.

Reusable Water Bottles

It is important to stay hydrated. Please send your child to school with a reusable water bottle everyday. It gets warm in our classrooms in the summer and fall, and students need to drink plenty of water. We have refill stations on campus for students to use.

This week we want to highlight the new math curriculum that we are piloting at MES. All K-5 classrooms are starting with Illustrative Mathematics. According to their website, "The IM K–5 Math certified curriculum is rigorous, problem-based, and fully aligned to the standards, with coherence across grade bands." Teachers are learning the curriculum, have participated and will continue to participate in professional learning. Click here to learn more about Illustrative Math.
At MES, we send home very little homework, but we encourage all students to practice their math facts with their grown ups at home. Discuss how you use math in your everyday life.

Please call our attendance hotline to report your child’s absence @ 760-934-7162. If your child’s absence is not reported, it is considered unexcused.

Our annual screening van will be here for hearing screenings on Tuesday, August 30th. Students in grades TK, Kinder, 2nd and 5th will be screened.

MES PTO will have a social gathering Wednesday evening, August 31, at Liberty Bar & Grill from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. All are welcome.

The PTO's 1st general meeting of the year is Thursday morning, September 1, at 7:30am in the MES Library. We hope to see you there!
