Principal's Message
Dear Edison Community,
If you’re signed up to receive Dr. Hammond’s Constant Contact updates, or follow us on social media @Edison_OMSD you know that our tentative date for a possible return to in person learning has been modified and is now anticipated to be April 12, 2021 (dependent on infection rates being at least at Tier 3: Orange Tier -Moderate). This change is due to the infection rates remaining at levels that place our area in the Purple Tier (widespread risk). While we remain optimistic that our district will be able to open for in-person instruction in the near future, we remain committed to ensuring our current online model is as effective as can be for all students.
Should the time come to reopen our campus for in-person instruction this year, here are a few things we will have in place to reduce the transmission and other adverse effects related with COVID-19 to the best of our ability. Although we may not be able to eliminate all of the risk associated with the virus, we are preparing and implementing the following:
Additional hand washing stations
Desk shields for all teachers and students as well as administration areas
Updated MERV filters in air conditioning units
Reusable and/or disposable masks available for all students and staff
New cleaning/disinfecting protocols using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved materials and solutions
Antibacterial soap in all dispensers
Personal protective equipment (PPE) for all applicable staff
Signage throughout campus to promote healthy hygiene habits
Ground signage designating a modified directional flow, and updated arrival / dismissal procedures to assist with physical distancing in school buildings and common areas
Shared responsibility for families, students, and staff with daily COVID-19 symptom checks
Please note, this is not a comprehensive list, but rather a few examples of measures the district has taken to prepare for in-person instruction under COVID-19 conditions. Once again, we will be communicating class schedules in the coming weeks for blended learning to assist families in visualizing our students’ instructional experience should a safe return to in-person instruction be possible. Additionally, we will be hosting informational meetings online to provide additional details for families.
Once again, I thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to finalize plans for a successful start to in person learning for students, families, and staff. Edison remains committed to inspiring all students through rigorous and relevant educational experiences and, regardless of the model of instruction, I am confident we will continue to do just that. #edisonstrong #together
