From the Principal
Dear Families,
Yesterday, Springfield High School hosted the 25th annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., paying tribute to his remarkable legacy.
Starting with a march from the Springfield Justice Building to SHS, the festivities continued with an exhibition of artwork, poems, and essays from students throughout the district. Then, the winners of the speech contest delivered their speeches to the audience in the auditorium.
All student participants showcased incredible talent and confidence in their respective performances with regards to this year's theme "Standing up in challenging times." This year's theme was taken from Dr. King's 1963 book titled "Strength to Love" in which he says "the ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand at time of challenge and controversy."
I could not be more proud of our community's dedication to honor Dr. King's impressive accomplishments. Much appreciation goes to Springfield for Equity and Respect (SAfER) for coordinating the celebration, the student contests and the march; Springfield Public Schools and Willamalane Parks for serving as co-sponsors; and all of those who made this special event possible.
Sincerely,
Principal da Silva
