Safety notice: At all 4-H events, all animals must be properly restrained or stalled; if in a commons area they must be always restrained and attended to.

The 4-H Foundation has some sheep/goat/pig pens that are still available to sponsor, $200 gets your name on a pen for the youth!

· Project records will not be required at fair this year. There will be a $100 award for youth who hand in (up to three completed) project records by September 1st. Winners will be presented at the Achievement Banquet in October.

There will be a $10/day or $50 camping fee at the fairgrounds during fair week. The campers are not allowed to park on the fairgrounds prior to Sunday, July 24th at 8 am. The fee helps to make updates around the fairgrounds. Parking passes are now available to purchase at the extension office.

Sale photos will be taken in the office when you hand in your sale card. It is required to have a photo taken of you to sell your items. Candid shots will be taken during the shows. It will also be the responsibility of the 4-H member to ensure a photo is taken, photographers will not track them down! 😊

Just a reminder that families need to pick up after themselves before they leave the grounds. Also, alcohol use near the 4-H show ring and during shows should not be visible. We are there for the youth, so we want to provide a good example.

- Each year a week before County Fair, all 4-Hers are asked to come and help spruce up the fairgrounds. This year it will be on July 18th from 5 – 8 pm. This involves a lot of effort and teamwork! During the event, trash is picked up, mowing, and weed trimming is completed, repairs are made, buildings painted, floors swept, and dust removed. Pizza will be provided!! Below are the assignments for each club and the independent members.

- Equipment/supplies to bring: gloves, push mowers, weed eaters, hammers, shovels, paint brushes, and brooms.

Junior Leaders: Beef Barn (mow and weed-eat around both beef barns, scale house, and show arena. Paint beef barn if needed)

Independents: Swine Barn (mow and weed-eat around building and paths to wash rack, pull weeds in stalls, check light bulbs, dig out drainage trench on west side)

Albany: 4-H Exhibit Building (sweep floors and wipe down shelves, mow and weed-eat around building, fix and help set out picnic tables)

Bingham Hustlers: Open Class Building (sweep floors and wipe down shelves, mow and weed-eat around building and water hydrant pad)

Green Valley: Sheep & Goat Barn (mow and weed-eat around sheep barn, check light bulbs and pen gates for usability, paint the sheet barn trim if needed)

Hooves and Hearts: Concession Building (sweep and mop floors, wipe and set up tables, clean kitchen and bathrooms) 4-H Office (sweep floors, and wipe down shelves, weed-eat around Office and Poultry Barn)

- These work assignments are a general guide. The hope is all the projects are completed and that takes teamwork! If you cannot attend on July 18th, you are encouraged to do some work on an earlier day. Everyone’s help is needed to have our fairgrounds looking its best. Please try to make it!

During Fair Week, 4-Hers help to keep the grounds and facilities looking nice. Flags should be raised by 8:00 am and lowered before sunset. Bathrooms should be cleaned (swept and fixtures wiped down) at least once per shift (mid-morning, right after lunch, and late afternoon) and paper products added as needed. Trash lying around on the grounds should be picked up and the barrels checked throughout the day. If barrels are full, they need to be dumped into the dumpsters. Supplies are in the Fair 4-H Office.

During the 4-H Horse show, exhibitors must show in a white button-down long sleeve shirt, a green arm band above the left elbow, and dark blue jeans that do not have decorative stitching on them. For the other 4-H shows, exhibitors have the option to wear a 4-H Sheridan County t-shirt. This does not include the tie-dyed t-shirts or the 4-H Foundation t-shirts. Youth can also wear a white button-down long sleeve shirt. They should also have the 4-H arm band on above the left elbow. T-shirts can be purchased for $15 and green arm bands for $3.50 from the Extension Office prior to fair or at the Fair Office during Fair week. The 4-H shirts will need to be worn during all shows, static judging (unless life skills), animal check-in (for pictures), and the 4-H Sale.

Static projects will have assigned family drop-off times based on their last name. When you arrive, you will meet Melissa or Marie at your designated tables to attach labels on your projects. Parents are not allowed in the building. Below is the scheduled static drop off times:

9:00 to 9:30 am A-C

9:45 to 10:15 am D-H

10:30 to 11:00 am I-M

11:15 to 11:45 am N-S

11:45 to 12:15 pm T-Z

Poultry have the option to leave after their show, and can check in on Monday by 11:00 am. If they are staying for the livestock auction they need to stay at the fair grounds.

If you are doing the poultry show, you can drop off your static items at an earlier time.

Youth will have the option to choose one of their static entries to be put up for a silent auction. A sign-up sheet will go by their entry, and then moved over to the sale on Wednesday. Youth will be responsible for following up with the buyer to complete the transaction.

Family Fun Night will be held on Monday July 25th starting at 5 pm. Starting with a free will meal sponsored by the 4-H Foundation. A Grill raffle/drawing will follow with other activities including a dunk tank, Tug-a-War, pie eating contest, apple bobbing, Business Showmanship, Yard Games, and more. Games will run from 5-7 pm. At 7 pm the Business Showmanship will start. Feel free to invite the public!

This year for Family Fun Night we are hosting a Business Showmanship competition. The species this year is Beef. We would like 4-H members who are taking this project to invite a Business professional to show their animal against other local business professionals. It will take place on Monday, July 25th starting at 7 pm. This is a great opportunity for youth to meet and interact with local businesses. The 4-H Council has compiled a list of potential business professionals to ask, please contact the Extension Office for some of the names. Also please let Marie know if you are planning to have someone show your project animal. See the form below.

Coming out in the July paper newsletter will be postcards to send to your community members, inviting them to the Sale on July 27th!

Are you ready to evaluate animal’s characteristics and with reasoning? On July 28th at 4 pm, youth will have an opportunity to judge with 2 divisions, prizes will be awarded also!

At 9:00 am in the show ring Clover Buds are encouraged to show their livestock by walking them around the ring and chatting with the judge about the care and maintenance of the project, each exhibitor should be prepared to give a 1 to 2 minute presentation concerning their projects history, cost of ownership, eating habits and lifestyle. Basis of judging exhibits in this division is general knowledge of the project by exhibitor and sportsmanship of exhibitor. 4-H attire and closed shoes need to be worn.

The top two senior and intermediate showmen from each of horse, beef, sheep, swine, and goat showmanship will compete in the Round Robin Contest. (Must be purple ribbon winners)

There will be a Champion and Reserve Champion in both senior and intermediate divisions. Champions will receive their own Buckle and a traveling trophy for one year.

FFA and 4-H are using an online entry system that allows exhibitors/parents to submit their livestock entries for the 2022 Nebraska State Fair. 4-H Static Exhibit Registration will be entered by the Extension Office staff.

Registration opens on July 1. All entries must be submitted no later than 8:00 PM Central Time on August 10, 2022. They are requiring you to use a credit or debit card when you submit your entries. You can pay and register your entries at: http://nebr.fairwire.com. Families will find a link to the State Fair Livestock entry website, a pdf with step-by-step entry instructions at http://nebr.fairwire.com. When you sign up for these events you will also purchase your State Fair discount passes for your family members.

4-H and FFA exhibitors and their families are responsible for submitting all livestock entries online.
