Hello STEM Families and welcome to this week's newsletter. This past weekend, we celebrated Mother's Day and we hope all the Mothers in the STEM Family enjoyed a fantastic day. This week, please be sure to check Home Access Center for Interim Reports. April Students of the Month are included in this edition of the newsletter. Also, please see below for exciting information about the upcoming CUSD Spring Concert! The annual Spring Career and Parent Resource Fair is this weekend - details are below.

4th Marking Period Interim Reports are now available on Home Access Center. There are just weeks remaining, and time is going to fly by. Students whose grades need improvement must start putting in the work now, before it's too late.

The HAC is where you will find your student's report cards, interim reports, and Course Selection. Not only that, visiting the HAC will allow you to check your student's grades and attendance on a daily basis.

If you do not have your HAC set up yet, email Ms. Misha Memon (mmemon@chesteruplandsd.org). She will reply with your username, password and a link to the log in page.

For the Class of '22, the end of year festivities are approaching quickly. One month from this Friday, they will be walking across the stage as graduates.

Before then, our Seniors must finish their academic responsibilities so they are ready and able to move on. Final exams for Seniors will take place from Tuesday, May 31 through Thursday, June 2. The last day for Seniors to submit work will be Friday, June 3.

Prom: Prom will be held on Friday, May 27 at The Waterfall in Claymont, DE. Seniors received detailed information regarding Prom before leaving for Spring Break. Families with Prom questions should email Ms. Thomson (rthomson@chesteruplandsd.org).

Class Day: Chester Upland School District's annual Class Day will be held on Tuesday, June 7 in the Courtyard at STEM. Invitations to students who will be honored on that day will be coming later this Spring.

Graduation: This year's CUSD Commencement Ceremony will be held at the Mirenda Center on the campus of Neumann University on Monday, June 13. The Graduation Committee is hard at work planning this year's event, and will be communicating further details to Senior families in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

The Chester Upland School District Music Department is hosting a Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 24. Students from all district schools will be showcased, including performances by a number of talented STEM students.

When: May 24 @ 6:00 PM

Where: Chester High Auditorium

Cost: $5.00

Tickets can be purchased through the office at STEM Academy (or any district school). Proceeds will support music education in CUSD!

The annual Spring Career and Parent Resource Fair will be taking place this weekend. On Saturday, May 14, families of students in all grades are invited to join us at Chester High from 9:00-1:00.

In addition to career building workshops and resources, there will be food and activities for kids. We hope to see you there!

All STEM students in Grade 9, 10 and 11 should have completed 2022-23 Course Selection last week. Students used Home Access Center to view and select the elective courses they wish to participate in.

We are encouraging families to check in with students about Course Selection. Your student can show you their choices, as well as our current Course Catalog. If you have questions about your student's courses for next year please contact our School Counselors, Ms. Turner-Wright (cturnerwright@chesteruplandsd.org) or Ms. Hargadon (chargadon@chesteruplandsd.org).

Congratulations to our Middle Schoolers, CTE and AP students, as they have completed their Spring exams.

7th and 8th Graders who missed their PSSA's will complete make-ups this week. Additionally, the AP Calculus exam took place today, May 9. Other than those exams, there are no other standardized tests scheduled for this week.

Beginning next week, high schoolers will take their Keystone exams. Please see below for the schedule. Attendance is critical on those days, so please help us make sure your students are on-time and present.

The Summer Break is fast approaching. Once again, we will be offering the M.A.R.S. Summer Program for students entering Grades K-8. Please click the link below for more information and to sign up. This link can be shared with any CUSD families who have students entering Grades K-8.

K-8 Summer Enrichment Information and Sign-Up

STEM students who fail core academic classes will be offered the opportunity to make the course up through the Summer Credit Recovery Program. School counselors will be in contact with students and families in the upcoming weeks regarding Credit Recovery. Please note that students who are transitioned from STEM to Chester High due to multiple failed courses should still complete Credit Recovery in order to maintain progress toward Graduation. Additionally, some students may be required to complete Credit Recovery in order to continue at STEM next year.

It's not too late to sign your student up for a vision screening here at STEM.

May 23, 2022- Salus University will be at STEM to perform visual screening for students. If a student fails, they will be able to pick glasses with the appropriate prescription the same day. All services are free.

2022-23 New Student Application

Each year, STEM 8th Graders who wish to continue on to high school here must re-apply. Our returning students undergo the same application process as those students who attend other schools. If you have an 8th Grader, please make sure they complete their application as soon as possible.

The Clippers Baseball team had a thrilling win on Senior Day, beating rivals Academy Park. The Clippers were led by Senior Captain Anthony Reczuk, Jr. to a 15-4 victory.

Dr. Thomas Butler from Crozer Health visited STEM on Wednesday, February 2. He met with 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students to speak about his experience becoming a doctor, and encourage them to participate in the ID STEM Summer Program at Crozer Hospital.

During the week of June 27, students have the opportunity to get up close experience with medical professions by attending the program at Crozer. Families, please contact Mr. Bell for more information. There are limited spots, so please reserve soon!
