Weekly Bulletin 2.3
2023~2024 SY CHAPTER 2.3
Welcome to week 3 of quarter 2! We are roughly 2.5 weeks away from Thanksgiving! As stated last week, this month is a short month, so we must maximize the days so that they make as much impact as possible. We started our week with pink in support of breast cancer awareness month. We had our parent-teacher conferences Thursday, which yielded a favorable turn out. A special shout out to the 9th grade core team teachers who made phone calls to the parents of the 9th graders inviting them out to conferences. This is a good time to thank our Community College and Career Center Coordinator, Mrs. Castleberry for inviting our partners out to make direct contact with our parents as they came through for conferences. We also had a little bit of fun with our surprise pop up party from Z107.9 Academics stayed at the forefront as Trio took another set of students on a college visit. The 9th graders are next up for a college visit, so it is important that we get as many 9th graders signed up with our Trio program as possible.
As we navigate the last portion of 2023, (yes, it is really coming to a quick close), it is imperative that we keep our school goals in mind. Now that the grades for quarter 1 are published, we must move with intentionality to make sure that quarter 2 yields the outcomes that we want. Teachers completed course analysis worksheets during our PDI week so they have a visual of the distribution of grades for all students. Students have either received their report cards, (those who had parents pick them up at PTC), or will receive them by Wednesday. The information, (data), is available. It is what we do with that information that will determine the outcomes we have for quarter 2. What was good about your results? Identify it and celebrate it! What part of the results need to be improved upon? Make an improvement plan for those areas! I am encouraging all students to take an active role in monitoring their academic grades alongside their teachers this quarter. There should be no surprises at the end of quarter 2 if this occurs continuously throughout the quarter. Student self-assessment is 2nd only to collective teacher efficacy in the list of things that have the greatest effects on student achievement. As we do this, we will find ourselves getting closer and closer to our goals until we one day look back and discover that we have exceeded our goals. It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when. Forge ahead!
In service of our scholars,
Brian Evans, Principal

Procedure reminders
- Seek approval for field trips from the principal, (in writing), before scheduling any field trips. Include the Mrs. Sprinkle & Mr. Chunn in the email so they can add it to the events & field trips calendar should the field trip be approved.
- Admit students into your classroom until 8:15 before requiring a pass, after 8:15, all late arrivals must sign-in at the planning center.
- Refrain from issuing hall passes the first 10 and the last 10 minutes of class.
- Refrain from "replying all" to mass emails, as it pushes important information down the thread, (potentially causing it to be missed).
- Review the assessment calendar & make sure that you issue a diagnostic (pre-test), mid-term & final in all classes. These assessments should always access a priority-standard.
- Only permit students in your class who are on your roster for that period, (unless you are covering a class). This includes advisory.
- Use all 46 instructional minutes for instruction. Students should not be idle at any time during the period. Prepare critical thinking task for those who master the concepts, and interventions for those who do not.
- Apply the knowledge gained from PDI into your everyday practices.
