Stars Football Family -

You know it has been a great season when you are still playing when winter sports begin! After a blustery Saturday victory, we find our Stars in the Elite 8. Saturday was like no other athletic experience I have been a part of. I have played sports in almost every weather but never with 70mph winds. Thank you to all the fans who came out to the game. Seeing our turnout was better than the home team's was awesome. Our Stars fans never disappoint you guys are truly the 12th man!

The game itself was a difficult one to navigate. Our staff and team discussed our wind plan in our pregame vision meeting. The plan was to take the ball with our first possession and ensure we would have the wind in the 4th quarter. We felt strongly that we could build a lead through the first 3 quarters, and that would make it difficult for Hoffman to build any type of comeback going face-first into a gale-force wind. The plan didn't start so hot, but our boys weathered the storm and won the first quarter 8-3. In the second quarter, we proved our theory by scoring ten unanswered points on the back of the longest pass touchdown in program history. Will Vaske find Drew Surges for a 92-yard scamper into the endzone? Hunter Liszka capped off the scoring with a 38-yard field goal.

As we went into the half, we discussed our plan. We would take the wind in the 4th and trust our defense to keep the lead during the 3rd. It was a risk, but we felt was worth it because of our stout defensive effort thus far. The defense sealed the deal with an Alex Valenzuela pick and returned to the 10-yard line of the Hawks. From then on, the team could pin their ears back and cruise to a 2nd round victory. The win gave the Stars their 10th win in a row and tied the school record for wins in a season. At 10-1 the Stars are ranked 3rd in the state and have beaten three teams in the top 10! The bottom line is this team is for real, and their ability will be on full display this Saturday at 1 pm when we take on the Mustangs of St.Rita.

We hope you can make it to the game to support our Stars. The battle of public versus private will be on in the arena! I know our boys are up for the opportunity. We back down from no one and believe in our ability as a family to protect our season. The brick walls may get bigger and thicker, but we will do whatever it takes to break through. It is time to level up!

In the IHSA, not every team will make the 7a playoffs. Only 32 teams get the honor of being in a playoff. Essentially, it is like winning a regional championship to get in. To determine who gets into the playoffs, the IHSA has a set of rules.

1. 5 wins make a team playoff eligible

2. 6 wins is an automatic bid

3. Conference champion is an automatic bid

4. Seeding is based on records and the points

5. 1 point is awarded to the team for every win on their schedule

* PLAYOFF TIME MEANS AN EXPANSION OF OUR PRACTICE SQUAD AND ROSTER

- IT IS ESSENTIAL TO UNDERSTAND THAT JOINING THE VARSITY IS A COMMITMENT

- PLAYERS WILL BE HELD TO VARSITY ACCOUNTABLE FOR ATTENDANCE

- ALL SOPHOMORES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE PLAYOFF RUN ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD

- FROSH WILL BE BY INVITE ONLY

- CERTAIN SOPHS & FROSH WILL BE ADDED TO THE VARSITY ROSTER FOR THE PLAYOFFS

- A GOOGLE FORM WILL BE RELEASED WEDNESDAY EVENING FOR INTERESTED PLAYERS TO FILL OUT.

- PLAYERS ADDED TO THE PRACTICE SQUAD / ROSTER WILL BE SENT COMMUNICATIONS REGARDING EXPECTATIONS OF THE VARSITY TEAM.

The SCN staff and players visited the Tri City Football 12 U team as they prepared for the SuperBowl this past Sunday. Players and coaches shared words of encouragement to the players.

Congratulations to Coach Chris Hill on his 10U Superbowl Appearance! Coach has been amazing as the varsity defensive line coach this year!

Jordan Nubin '20 continues to get carries as the Golden Gophers have now improved to 3-0

This past Saturday, the NU Wildcats bested the Cornhuskers from Nebraska in a week 0 special. The game was played in Dublin, Ireland. Congrat Carmine

Junior DB Tyler Nubin is on the Recee's Bowl Senior Watch list. This is a high honor as the Senior Bowl is the premier senior showcase for potential NFL players. Congrats Tyler
